New key for possible hatch release?

I'm not exactly sure where I should put this, but I realized that there are other nissan keys with 4 buttons instead of 3. I was wondering if it's possible to program hatch release onto the extra button...

I really don't like how we don't have a hatch release button.

This is more for other people than myself, because if someone were to put something in the trunk, then I'd have to get out and open it if they can't figure out how...

christian370z 09-22-2011 09:39 PM

That would be very nice. The most frustrating thing about the hatch is that there is not hatch release in the car, and most people not familiar with the car have no clue how to open it so you have to get out of the car and open it for them.

Yeah... and there's that little confusing round button next to the release...

UNKNOWN_370 09-22-2011 10:29 PM

Lol... are you guys serious???? Tell your buddies its the rectanglular button. If you can't figure out button shapes? You need serious help or need special tutoring in life. The hatch is basically a door. Just like we don't have door release, we don't have hatch release. You don't need the fob to open it, the car only has to be unlocked. That's good enough. People are too lazy to use minimal brain power and energy nowadays... Lmao... :inoutroflpuke:

happytheman 09-22-2011 10:41 PM

I don't really care either way. I thought it was funny though when I recently had valet parking and they were trying to find the release. I laughed out loud at their frustration! LOL :)

I have a backup camera right next to the release, and that thing gets abused all the time...

TMAN1985 09-22-2011 11:17 PM

I got a Viper Alarm, and I can open the trunk with the "AUX" button on the Viper remote. There is a trunk release wire down by the passenger kick panel. You could program a button inside the car if you really wanted

MarkeZ 09-22-2011 11:21 PM

My extra key fob has the 4th button for the trunk release. The dealership was not able to program it. It's not really a big deal though, my other car has that and I don't remember the last time I even used it.

I don't want people going around scratching my paint with fingernails and rings searching for the button underneath.

mrcoolguyface 09-28-2011 10:51 AM

Really? Like Really Really? LOL

I'm surprised how many times I have seen this whole "Trunk Debacle" come up... And that "tricky circular button" next to the trunk button... I personally see no reason for anything other than what has come on the car. You can essentially enter/exit, lock/unlock, and have full use of all functions of the trunk, including locking the car back up *("tricky circular button") with the key in your pocket. The only thing you are losing is the possibility of accidentally opening your trunk from, lets say, in your house.... I can't tell you how many times I have seen cars in the mall parking lot, or parked in front of homes with the trunk opened, and nobody in sight. For this I say THANK YOU NISSAN! Cheers! :tiphat:

kenchan 09-28-2011 10:52 AM

Huh, come to think of it I do use the hatch button on my G's fob frequently.... would be nice.

LakeShow 09-28-2011 11:01 AM

Not to highjack the thread but does the Z make a typical Nissan/Infiniti beep sound when you unlock the doors or by pressing the button on the door or the trunk? I ask this because the Z I was going to pick up did not make a beep sound.

TypeOne 09-28-2011 11:06 AM

Side question...

Does anyone know if you can program a 10'+ "Z" FOB to an 09?

Hahaha... so do I. I just don't let anyone touch my car past the handle and passenger seat. Lol

See the G is there for you when you don't want to walk an extra 5 feet. Lmao.

It doesn't sound off when you open. It does when you lock it but you can toggle it off so it won't sound either way.

Is it possible/practical to add a push button hatch release in cockpit? Is the exterior touch-panel a simple momentary-contact or does it include some sort of circuit board?

gurneyeagle 09-28-2011 12:16 PM

Two things -

1 -it's surprising there isn't an inside hatch release button; and

2 - I never let anyone open or close my trunk/hatch. Way too many dolts that slam the sh1t out of doors/trunks/hatches when closing them.

mrcoolguyface 09-28-2011 01:34 PM

Maybe its me, BUT

I absolutely think its a "female" thing to SLAM! The trunk like its a steel door on a secret layer! LMFAO! It drives me absolutely BONKERS when "they" do that! :iagree:

I have trained mine well.

She can slam anything in her own car... but when she is in mine, feet on the floor, hands in her lap and exit the vehicle cautiously.

Don't scuff up my sills, don't play with the radio.

Don't slam the door and wait for me to unlock it before pulling on the handle.

Works really well. ;-)

christian370z 09-29-2011 12:08 AM

^Haha, I tell that to everyone before they ride in my car. Don't scuff anything getting in or out, do not slam the door, and try not to touch everything.

Well there's always the manual release cable. You could probably replace it with a longer cable and route it up to a pull-tab near the driver's seat.

hdskull 09-29-2011 12:36 AM

This thread is going all over the place LOL.

I don't like it when people close the passenger door by putting their hands on the window...

It's possible. Supposedly, there's a wire under the passenger's kick panel, and you can tap into it...

I actually got a G37 sedan as a rental car, and that's actually what made me think of this. It was convenient when I used the button on the G.

I don't know why you put that smiley. I was just letting you know, with no attitude or other meaning behind it.

I did re-read your question and there is a beep when you open the hatch or door via the button. When you open it with the keyfob, there is no sound.

However, there is a horn honk when you close the door with the keyfob. This is the sound I was referring to when I answered your first question.

Edit: Sorry for hijacking the thread hdskull!!!

happytheman 09-29-2011 06:49 AM

Hmm, this may not be EXACTLY the information that you all were. Looking for, but for wiring an internal trunk release, this will get you started.

that little confusing round button is to unlock the doors. so if you and a friend are walking up to the car and you need to put something in the trunk you can unluck their door and open the trunk at the same time...or even getting something out of the trunk, you can lock the doors instead of walking around to your door or having to reach into your pocket for your key fob
