I'm just curious...

This isn't meant to be rude, but what's the deal with the GT-R start button? I mean, it's it just red? I actually like the OE button better myself. I just wanted to ask.

It is red and actually is a different material so it feels different when you push it.

No worries about being rude; it's a fair question.

I like it for the metallic red color. It really pops in a black interior, and doesn't look like something out of Altima/Versa.

It's one of the easiest and cheapest mods you can do. I've already had two friends comment on it.

hdskull 09-22-2011 09:01 PM

I totally agree with you, because I thought the orange actually matched the rest of the lights that we have inside.

^ I never thought about this though... makes me want to change mine now...

:iagree:

It doesn't look like milk and feel cheap.

Sibze 09-22-2011 09:08 PM

It makes the car go quicker

You parsed his sentence wrong. He had two friends that commented not two buttons that friends commented on... :)

Highway 09-22-2011 09:13 PM

I wanted it to match my S2000 start button.

sonic370 09-22-2011 09:19 PM

I use to care about the cool push button starters
thought they were cool. But know you can find em
On a Kia.

gbrettin 09-22-2011 09:34 PM

It's like the "Go baby go" button from Gone in 60 Sec.

When I ordered mine from Scott... that joker!

christian370z 09-22-2011 09:41 PM

It definitely adds some color to an otherwise black interior, plus it feels more solid when pressed. I like mine, that's all that matters in the end!

happytheman 09-22-2011 10:47 PM

A buddy of mine wasn't even remotely interested in the mod until he saw mine! Seriously..you can't know how cool it is until you have experienced it for yourself. It's smooth, metallic..and NOT OEM. 'nuff said!

DJ-of-E 09-23-2011 12:59 AM

I have a 40th z. Honestly, the stock OE button pretty much sticks out a lot more than the GTR push start, which matches the red trim interior.

EazyD 09-23-2011 01:05 AM

it feels better when pushing it

Wait, they aren't supposed to look like that?

scottIN 09-23-2011 06:47 AM

If the GTR button was white, and the 370Z button was red, people would be switching the red ones out for white. It's all about being different.

I saw this on my Mercedes. There was a coupe version and a sedan version and the license plate surround was different. Everyone that had a coupe wanted the sedan surround...and everyone who had the sedan wanted the coupe surround - and everyone had their justifications.

Pretty sure the joke is the "+200HP" writing.

and maybe the fact it looks like it's made out of cardboard and is purple?

Somberlaine 09-23-2011 03:08 PM

i had no interest but this talk about the feel changed my mind...where can i get one :)

Streetlife 09-23-2011 04:03 PM

I just ordered one for my 2012 370Z. Even though i put my deposit down a few weeks ago, I still had to have it once my girl is shipped to the dealer.:ughdance:

+1 :iagree:

Looks much better now and definitely a higher finish quality than the stock one

Many sources; here's where I got mine:

The Z Store! Nissan-Datsun 240Z-260Z-280Z-280ZX-300ZX(Z31/Z32)-350Z-370Z Parts: GTR Push Button Ignition Switch, 09-10 370Z

kenchan 09-23-2011 04:48 PM

just makes the interior sportier looking. kinda like how i did the DiNoc. it's just a cosmetic candy thingie.

Lemers 09-23-2011 05:14 PM

I truly believe that if the buttons were reversed from Nissan. The Z came with red and the GTR came with the glow orange button the same people would be swapping them still. It's not because it's better. It because it rarer.

Jordo! 09-23-2011 05:19 PM

Mismatched buttons are ultra sexy.

Lemers 09-23-2011 05:21 PM

Buttons popped off a blouse are even sexier.

Maybe if the alternative to the red button had an aluminum or carbon fiber look. The standard button just looks out of place in a $35k - $45k sports car to me.

I wouldn't have made the switch from red to white.

pedZ 09-23-2011 10:49 PM

People like it because it looks like the big red button to launch a missle. lol.

If you have to ask, well you know the rest...

KillerBee370 09-24-2011 11:49 PM

Meh... Now if they can make a blue or green one that would be pretty cool.

:icon17:

Scott photoshopped a pink version of the button, cut it out and put it over the real button. :bowrofl:

The joke at the time was a pink GT-R start button delivered by a pigeon would add 200 hp.

Hambone1 09-25-2011 10:15 AM

It's so when you have a hot girl in your car...in a melodramatic voice you say "don't ever press the red button," and since you're now stuck in your car going nowhere, the magic can blossom

Then keep the OE button and call it a day.
