Torque convertor for A/T transmission
Hi all, I need to know the OEM torque convertor for the automatic transmission can handle up to what horsepower? Thank you
I think the stock drivetrain will hold up to 500whp. Anything over that is risky
It's written somewhere that the 7AT can't handle more than 300wtq. So far its been the hold up for FI people... the top 3 gears cant handle it.
Ya, I think 500 rear wheel is a little much, no?
400~whp is pushing it..

From what I've been able to pick up from reqding on several sites and this one, GTM has an aftermarket TQ converter that will hold more for the AT. As well as aftermarket high gear clutches that have been deemed too weak for more than the 400ish rwhp range. The stock tranny will hold up with minor tranny mods. Valve body, converter and high gear clutches. With those mods you can run in the low 500's.

I am hoping the stock tranny can hold 500whp. With a 1000 miles on so far. No issues after the new tranny. I do have an tranny cooler.

I mainly use the first five heard in the street. Freeway driving I use 6-7 gears. The transmission upgrade, they add more gears to the higher gears. I havent been able to push on the high gears. Even on the canyon runs I only used the first four gears. I took it down a strip at my work..even in 5th gear pushing over 120, i felt like there was still more to go. |
