To the OP, sorry to hear about that.

That's why i etched my initials on the wheels on the inside. Just use a pushpin or nail to do it. this way if the wheels get stolen, you can identify them easily if they're found.

Thanks to all who posted and who feel my pain! Here's an update:

With regards to the case, my neighbor dropped off the video his surveillance cameras took. These guys worked in teams. Two cars drove down the block, a white chevy malibu looking-car and another behind it which is clearly a silver chevy monte carlo. The white car stayed more or less near the front of my house while the silver car went around the block and then is captured turning his lights off and PARKING at the far parallel end of my block (the lookout).

It took maybe 10 minutes, tops.

After this the parked car turns its lights on and leaves. No one ever gets out of this car.

Later, the video shows my neighbor getting home and then after that, the police arriving. Unfortunately the camera angle is off so I don't have a clear and direct view of my house, but I do have a clear view of the two vehicles involved. When the detective calls today I'll give him this information.

I'm posting this in the hope that you guys will read it an understand how these people work. If you see a pair of suspicious looking vehicles in your neighborhood you will think twice now.

Maybe we'll catch these bastards!

That sucks. Seeing as how often 370Z rims seem to get stolen, they really should have serial numbers. Two of mine have so much curb rash I wish they'd get stolen. Or maybe that's why they haven't been stolen.

Maybe your neighbor took them. What was he doing up at 2:30 AM and how was it he just happened to notice your wheels were gone in the middle of the night RIGHT after they were stolen.

Since these are 40th anniversary rims, I think they would be easier to spot than others. If anyone in the MIAMI or SOUTH FLORIDA area sees some 40th anniversary 19 inch rays for sale or looking mighty suspicious, please let a brother know!

:(

Make sure you check under your car for damage. They probably weren't too careful about using the proper jack points.

SPOHN 09-15-2011 10:07 PM

They had to follow you home and went for the score. Those were defiantly the wrong wheels to take. It might as well have been a neon sign in a dark room.

happytheman 09-15-2011 10:11 PM

I'll keep my eyes open here in Central FL.

Sorry that happened to ya man, and hope the bastards get caught.

lateralus1179 09-16-2011 10:50 AM

There was damage found on the underside of the car because they didn't use the proper jack points. The cinderblock pushed up through the bottom of the frame.

Neighbor couldn't have taken them, he shows up on the surveillance video arriving on the scene just 10 minutes or so after the theft.

Perhaps he had knowledge of it...

It's typically true that a lot of theft leads back to people close to you (or within a company). It would be pretty bold of the neighbor to come to your door and offer video to the police if he was involved.

I wouldn't rule out the neighbor but also consider he may have just wanted to help out. Not all people are crooks. Is he young/old? Is he a car guy? What type of friends come over to his house?

optiontrader 09-16-2011 02:49 PM

Sorry to hear - hurts the eyes to see a 40th sitting on the ground like that.

Hope it turns out okay. I don't have wheel locks either, and I know ppl say they won't help, but I'll buy them since they can't hurt.

trust nobody.

I feel like I'm a good judge of character. My neighbor is a kid in his early 20's, has a girlfriend, and rarely has any friends over his (parents) house. He works and goes to school and is generally speaking a "good person" from all accounts.

I also agree that it's hard to trust people these days. I won't rule anyone or anything out until the detectives are done with their investigation. The police also got all of his information as well so if they feel they need to look further into my neighbors involvement I am sure they will.

They might not work 100% becuase people will find all type of way to get your wheels "per se". But it will definitely deter any potential thieve and like you say it will not hurt.

Make sure you get the corrrect OEM ones which are different from the 350Z. ;)
