It's typically true that a lot of theft leads back to people close to you (or within a company). It would be pretty bold of the neighbor to come to your door and offer video to the police if he was involved.

I wouldn't rule out the neighbor but also consider he may have just wanted to help out. Not all people are crooks. Is he young/old? Is he a car guy? What type of friends come over to his house?

optiontrader 09-16-2011 02:49 PM

Sorry to hear - hurts the eyes to see a 40th sitting on the ground like that.

Hope it turns out okay. I don't have wheel locks either, and I know ppl say they won't help, but I'll buy them since they can't hurt.

I feel like I'm a good judge of character. My neighbor is a kid in his early 20's, has a girlfriend, and rarely has any friends over his (parents) house. He works and goes to school and is generally speaking a "good person" from all accounts.

I also agree that it's hard to trust people these days. I won't rule anyone or anything out until the detectives are done with their investigation. The police also got all of his information as well so if they feel they need to look further into my neighbors involvement I am sure they will.

They might not work 100% becuase people will find all type of way to get your wheels "per se". But it will definitely deter any potential thieve and like you say it will not hurt.

Make sure you get the corrrect OEM ones which are different from the 350Z. ;)

maybe he's just looking to sell his OEM's to get some aftermarket wheels. cant assume that he is the culprit though.

Thanks PapoZalsa, I'll keep an eye out for the right ones.

Next, I'll wire up some high voltage triggers to the lug nuts that'll zap if someone tries to steal 'em. :D

Everytime I read these threads you guys get me all paranoid. Every noise outside, I'm running to the window to make sure my wheels are still on my car lol

There was damage found on the underside of the car because they didn't use the proper jack points. The cinderblock pushed up through the bottom of the frame.

Neighbor couldn't have taken them, he shows up on the surveillance video arriving on the scene just 10 minutes or so after the theft.

Wheel locks could have delayed the theft just enough where the neighbor could have caught them. Dam 10 mins is close.

370z OEM sport rims 19 inch( TRADE)

Wonder if you should see these....or ask for pics? Posted 2 days ago

Waiz 09-21-2011 03:34 PM

I will keep an eye out, sorry that this happened.

I hate parking my car outside for this exact reason :(

gbrettin 09-21-2011 03:46 PM

I'm really surprised that people take the rims from a 370z. They are an odd size and not a lot of cars can even equip them. I live in a town where there is one other 370z...

If I was in your guys area I'd be down for an undercover steak out on that deal lol

alejo 09-21-2011 05:16 PM

hey man use this website SearchTempest - The EASY way to search Craigslist it searches all the craiglists areas and ebay so this will probably help you out....

KillerBee370 09-21-2011 06:24 PM

Wait wait wait... you pulled in at 2 am. Then your neighbor knocks on your door at 2:30?? :icon08:

I would start the search with his garage.

UNKNOWN_370 09-22-2011 01:03 PM

Sovwheel locks aren't standard with nissans? Everytime I buy a new nissan I have wheel locks with my car. That's crazy?
I'm sorry about you getting robbed. There's nothing lower than rapists and thieves. Its so scummy low and grimey. But there is the insurance bright side. Get the insurance company to pay for michelin PILOT SPORT SS tires. :) better performance and will last a little longer than the brridgestones.

I also have wheel locks and a sensitive tilt sensor (sucks parking night out of the town cuz it's the first to alarm). The reason it's sensitive is because my friend owns a business installing alarms on cars and we use to go to Hot Import Nights and prove a point their alarms sucked. We got around tilt sensors before and able to steal rims without setting it off. wheels all gone in 10 minutes as well.

Those McGard wheel locks could hold their own triggering the tilt sensor. However, 1 big problem is if they scouted and tried like 5 attempts, they probably have enough keys to find the matching one. They do that a lot on very high end wheels where they spend day 1 identifying the key and day 2 finding/making something that will get rid of the key.

Good update - thanks! Hope it all works out.

lateralus1179 02-10-2012 09:05 PM

Just wanted to update everyone on this since its relevant to my old post -

I did get new rims and tires through the insurance, but I had to pay my $500 deductible which sucked. At the end though, that's what we have insurance for, right?

Anyway, here's the best part. Police are getting closer and closer.

I'm pretty sure the only thing that will set off the factory alarm is opening a door or hatch. No tilt or break glass sensor. It should be easy to add, just put it in series with any door alarm wire.

Nissan has a stock factory add on. You. Guys should really look at the website thoroughly before buying cars. There are way more options than what you see on the standard option list.
