Bad move in my opinion. Asking for trouble and asking to empty your bank account. You already have an amazing (and reliable) sports car.

I know it's a porsche but it's an old Porsche.
|
The car had been professionally modified within Porsche Specs from the ground up (full suspension mods and 450HP to the wheels) prior to the current owners purchase……..so old or not the unit was pretty/crazy sweet on the road. Due to the current owners neglect and lack of maintenance savvy the poor car is probably going to die badly
Oh well good lesson learned! So can anyone say 996 turbo?…hahahaha |

I'd buy a GT3 997 if I were going to buy an older Porsche. However, I just don't make that kind of money. Anyway, it seems to me like you just have some urge to buy a Porsche. Why? Yes, it's more refined than your 370Z, but I doubt you bought a 370Z because it was uber-refined. I cross-shopped the Cayman S and the 370Z and I would have bought the 370Z over the Cayman S, personally. I know that doesn't mean crap to you, but I'm just saying as a 3rd party that bought neither car, nor has owned either car, my perception of the two was that the Cayman S emblem was costing me $30K had I made that decision. Oh, the paint was better on the Porsche and the interior was made of higher grade material (because Porsche said so...) but felt the same to me. Whoever the jackass was that designed the 370Z seats didn't count on a jackass like me dropping my Pt. safe scissors behind the seat either :( Almost lost them. |
so was the whale bought?
|
All those engine upgrades sound great yet at the same time, scary. I am certain this was not the right car for a first time Porsche owner. Good luck following the dream.

Seems like a step backwards unless this type of car is on your bucket list. I agree it looks clean, and after living in Lake Stevens for 7 years I understand how it was only driven <10k miles in 10 years.

Ha ha about time you finally got a Porsche.
|
Damn that's svelte looking. Does it have a new nose or something? Even Jeremy Clarkson would admit that looks decidedly non-beetlesque. :)
|
Very nice!

...and I just saw you got a 2003 Turbo. Noice!

Congratulations Nikon FM! I hope she's satisfying for you.

Thanks all! I'll post up a few more pics when there is good daylight and my schedule isn't kicking my tail.
According to the salesman (take that for what' it's worth) +200HP to my tuned 370Z….but I'm kind of a believer because when the unit hits .7 bar (slightly tuned) holy crap…... it is gone. I think a radar detector is definitely in my future acquisitions. |

^ I will take it to a dyno at some point before next track season. Not knowing for sure kind of makes me crazy.

So what, is the Z sold then?
|
Nice Porsche!
Definitely need more pics. |
MightyBobo
Nose looks stock to me. The 996 body style never did it for me...weird looking headlights...
RE: weird looking headlights.. Yeah I never liked them either but I saw Porsche made a cover to give them the traditional shape. Great improvement, but the new owner gets to decide what he likes. Sweet deal. |

The headlights came out with the 996 911 make. Everyone hates them because they are the same ones on the Boxster. The early model 996 ~2001 had a number of parts shared with the Boxster and the interior was really crappy/cheap plastic due to Porsche trying to reduce costs at the time. 911 Porsche enthusiasts screamed at corporate because they went cheap. The 2003 however, has upgrades the earlier 996s did not. I don't know all the details but to get the rounded headlights you either have to buy a 997 911 or earlier. Earlier has less technology and later is bloody expensive so I opted for the 2003 with the better interior etc. The car cost me less than I paid for my 370Z brand new about 2.5 years ago. Essentially I'm going to sell the seats and put race seats with a 5 point harnesses and I need to buy some stock 18" wheels and R-comps to get ready for next track season. It should be fun. |
That is beautiful man, congrats! The previous owner did a great job on the car.
|
Sharp car, Nikon.

So how much was it in the end? Had to have been at least 80-90 - Turbo's are NEVER cheap...

Very cool car man, and I know you loved the older one, but I'd take this over that old school Porsche any day. It looks great, enjoy it!
|
Very nice man, enjoy that, and charge hard on the track!

Geez, just look on ebay for used 996 turbos they go from high 30's to ~70k. The 70k usually have crazy work/HP and 5k miles on them. Milage is the key pricing factor, that and whether or not the carfax is clean. |
