That's like saying why people buy their Z and not track their car. Should we all jail the Nismo users for not tracking. Geez

The whole 2 or 4 door thing is lame too, sounds like losers getting hung up over some lame design difference. You going to say the 911 is not a sports car because it has 4 seats?

i have a great idea!

lets turn this thread into one of a discussion about car and driver's z review, to arguing the amongst ourselves about which cars are sports cars!

I find it hard to believe that a Mini and GTI is more fun to drive than a 370Z.

I don't get why they throw in the "fun to drive" factor in there. Its too subjective. Also, did anyone notice the lap time. 0.8 seconds behind the Mustang with about 80 hp less at the crank. Still impressive.

C/D Track performance times:
Mustang GT: 92.5
370Z: 93.3
Evo: 94.2
Mini Cooper: 97.0
GTI: 97.9
MX-5: 99.4

Nissan def missed the mark with the fixable flaws, we can all agree. It's just down right inexcusable to not find an oil cooler and upgraded brakes/brake cooling in the Nismo, a car that's suppose to be track oriented. This is old news though, and we all know how to fix it by now. Lets just hope Nissan wakes up and gets us something that doesn't require us arguing over warranty work at the dealership. As much as I hate seeing articles about the Z like this, maybe its a good thing and slaps Nissan to wake up.

Small cars with a little power (Miata and Mini) are always fun to drive. It's not going to make the Vin Diesel crowd happy, but they are a blast to toss around the corner.

This is embarrasing to say the least.

Nissan needs to increase the Sport Package by ~$1000 and add the Oil Cooler and Nismo brake pads in there. Problem solved.

Why is it the 350's didnt have major oil cooling issues. these are esentially the same motors with a lil displacement bump correct?

Just got my mag and took a quick look. The Z was only second around the track to the GT. It stopped 2nd best only to the GT. It had the best skidpad results. It was 2nd in the Slalom to the EVO. So as much as I agree that the Z should not have overheated I think it should have done better then 4th since it seems to have performed better or as good as the EVO and the Stang.

Brake failure matters! In the end, the article will affect sales!

I would offer as a counterpoint -- would the addition of a $300 (Nissan's cost in volume can't be the same as retail) oil cooler added to cost of the "Sport" package reduce sales of that package ($3000 vs $3300)?

If it reduces bad press, and it's costs are covered, IMHO, it's a good deal.
Bad press, it's in circulation, you can't change that! Nissan installing an oil cooler, never going to happen!

I can only hope it's aimed at Nissan so they eventually (even if in the next gen Z) fix these issues. Fat chance though as Chevy is still making crappy Corvette interiors and every reviewer has commented on that point for years.
There not beating a dead horse, different car(Z), different test, same results!(except it didn't wreck this time)

Also, I would NEVER get a Miata over a Z or even a Mustang.
You may not, but their are members who have switched to the Mustang!

All the cars in the test had factory brakes, the other cars did fine with factory brakes.

Bumps in the road and comfort seats, did they test a Cadillac? Brakes those are important, they are real important!

They had an oil pressure gauge, not a temperature gauge. Yes they did run 200-250F like this car, but the 370 definitely can run hotter due to the extra 1000RPM it has and the lack of oil warmer/cooler.

The factory oil-water cooler did help, even though small. It is what the Australian and Asian cars have on the 370Z still.
