Just damaged my car blind spot side view mirrior

I was making a left hand turn. I'm usually very careful. I did not see a stopped car and clipped it. The side view mirror blocks my line of sight during turns. Does any one else have this problem? No one hurt. I think I have to replace my front bumper and get a booster seat to see over my side view mirrior.

kenchan 08-20-2011 07:57 PM

Yep one of the reasons why I have the craftsquare. But if this is your dd you're better off raising the seat.

TreeSemdyZee 08-20-2011 10:23 PM

I just about hit a little old lady (in her car) today partially because of the mirror.

How tall are you OP? I haven't ever noticed any problem with not seeing the mirror myself. I am not what I would call tall but not short either (6 ft). I wonder if its only a problem if your a bit shorter than that?

JZNx 08-20-2011 11:22 PM

You should really think about getting the circle convex mirrors.
Helps prevent the blind spots.
Amazing for parking, especially parallel parking.
Also helps you lane change, you don't have to turn over to your shoulder =).
And sorry to here about your accidents.

wilsonp 08-20-2011 11:35 PM

I think the 350z shorter mirrors look like they don't block so much, something about the design/angle of the stock mirrors really block a lot of forward corner view.

And blind spot mirrors won't help that. We need to replace the mirrors with LCD screens that switch front/back view :)

I wonder the same as well because I'm just 5' 10".

I don't have an issue with the mirrors, per se...but I would like to see pics of these on your Z so I can evaluate.

CraigP 08-21-2011 08:18 AM

I've noticed that when making a left hand turn at an intersection where there's a concrete curb that it's very difficult to see around the mirror. Been REAL careful with that.

I have a blind spot mirror on the driver's side but I'm pretty sure you should still check over your shoulder.

Btw- we are talking about the physical mirror housing being the blind spot, not behind the car.

I don't have a problem seeing over the mirror, I'm 5'11" but also have the seat adjusted higher. Try turning the knob and seeing if it gets you over that point. Or stop putting your seat reclined all the way like a G

This ^^

I was goign to say maybe the problem is when i drive i sit up so that I can see things and be safer.

but if guess if people want to give up safety for "ridin in style" then go for it, but dont complain that the company didnt design something right.

P.S im 5'8-9. seriously my height goes up and down every doctors visit.

Nick911sc 08-21-2011 11:58 AM

I'm around 6ft and the mirrors have never been an issue. Adjusting the height of your seat while driving is more important than looking like an OG low rider. I'd rather spend my money on mods than body work.

Honestly, we're driving sports cars...not Honda Civics.

I'm a 6'1" new owner, and no problems with the mirrors here. However, I can see how folks are rubbing curbs and trashing rims.

I brought my Z to work for the first time today. Just after the access gate/card reader to the garage, there is a 90° right turn, and the fenders totally block the view of the curb.

Talk about driving blind! Ouch.

vividracing 08-22-2011 12:41 PM

+1 on the seat adjustment comments. What did the other party/police say when you told them your didn't see an entire car because your side mirror was in the way?

Really? I know our mirrors are a bit large (to help reduce blind spot issues) but I have never heard this issue before. I don't think height or seat position would have anything to do with it either, if you're that low down you wouldn't be able to see in front of you. No need to blame the car for ever accident people do make mistakes and it's alright.

Once a meteor was streaking to earth and was struck by lightening on the way down. This diverted it's path so that it struck a cow's ***. That cow leaped out in front of my Z causing me to hit a curb whilst avoiding it. This scratched my rim. ******* car.

If you had smaller mirrors you could have seen it sooner.

Edit: oh 101 posts

Plus, if you sit up straighter and raise the seat, you get to see your shiny hood! At night time, if it's washed + waxed, all the reflections of lights make you go :happydance:

I sit up very straight and somewhat forward all the time. I'm about 5'10" and the first thing I noticed versus the NSX was how much view the mirrors blocked - then I looked backwards (!) :D

If I look over my shoulder I see the passenger head rest or the drivers side molding for that useless window. The lane change best practice in a 370Z is to check your mirrors, lean forward and check the mirrors again and then ACCELERATE :)

i'm 6'2" and still am sitting too high even with the seat cushion on the lowest setting. my head is ~1in. from the roof lining. how i'm ever going to fit with a helmet on for the track, i have no idea

you won't. another reason I'm trying to sell my z

elmz 08-26-2011 09:51 AM

I know what you mean OP. Sometimes the left mirror has blocked my view of some things and even someone before. Luckily I saw them as they came into view.

EVOR 09-04-2011 11:51 PM

I have the same problem. I like the sit low, cuz most of race cars are like that. I'm only 5'6". I thin this problem applies to ones that sit low. I really want to design a new set of mirrors for 370Z.

dennis26 09-05-2011 08:14 AM

Hasn't been a problem for me.

Forrest 09-05-2011 04:10 PM

I am six feet tall. My hair some times touches the roof. I can see physically forward past the side door mirrors with ease. I suspect your sitting so low in the car it becomes a forward blind spot.

sonic370 09-05-2011 08:15 PM

Let's face it the side mirrors are butt ugly. compared to the rest of the car...
They look like they came off a Ford F150..........

Remove both mirrors and drag would go way down.. and top end would reach
around 160......................

PapoZalsa 09-05-2011 09:04 PM

I had 2 close calls even with the little blind spot mirros.
