The wait is over..
I just passed my break-in period and I plan on changing the oil tomorrow. I can not wait to see what she can do!!! Its been so hard waiting for the 1200 mile mark to come, with the sound of the engine just begging to be pushed over 4k. Though at the same time its been an excellent experience buying a brand new car (my first new one) and then babying it until she learned to run.
|
just past mine im at 1250 now pushed her past 4k to redline tonight just to test it out
the car screams like crazy still waiting for my magnetic drain plug to get here then ill do the oil change maybe @ 1500 im still gonna baby her until then shifting at 4k instead of 3k lol but man speed is just crazy!!! |
Mine was redlined the day I test drove it. I'm not buying anything until it gets "driven" first.
|
Yea I cant wait to give her a little push tonight after the oil change its going to be fun.

Right there with you all! I just passed mine on the way back from a road trip to Santa Barbara. Unfortunately, I did it while sitting in bumper to bumper traffic on the 405, so it was a bit anti-climactic...
The dealer keeps encouraging me to wait for the customary 3,750 miles for the first oil change and assures me that one sooner is not necessary. It sounds like the consensus is overwhelmingly for getting one sooner, though...? |
First oil & filter change at ~2,500 miles, then again at ~6,000. Castrol GTX 5W30 each time. Currently at 7,200+. Now get out there and drive it like you stole it.:icon17:

I am changing the oil because I want to put something better in there and because I am anal about stuff like that. I mean most people do wait till 2500 - 3000 miles but I can not wait that long especially because I am going to be taking bluzman's advice.
|
LOL I'm hovering around 107 miles for the past 2 weeks. The storms and aftermath from several months (sand hasn't washed away) kept me from taking it out. [sigh]
I'm going to do things differently and get the oil change at regular interval. |
There was another thread here, can't find it right now, that was debating the whole "change it out early" thing versus waiting. Some claim everything seats better if you leave the original oil in as stated........ changing the original oil out too early and rings will never seat as good as they should. What to believe, everyone has their own opinions on this and break-in. Drive it like you stole it to seat the rings......... baby it like the manual recommends........ change out the original oil at 100 to 200 miles and again at 1200, change it out at 1200 ....... wait until the first recommended oil change ...................... eye yai yai yai yai
I just want it to be perfect  lol John |
I'm just changing my oil at 1000 miles then redline here I come..
Although breaking a car in is optional and there's no factual evidence that makes your car perform better, do what you want, when you want, as you please. There's no HARM in going 1000 or 1200 miles before beating on the motor either.. I took mine up to 6k bursts but not redline yet.. I'm not concered that it's going to harm my car.. I redlined the piss out of my 2000 Prelude when I bought it brand new and it dyno'd more to the ground than a lot of people were making with the same exact mods on the SAME dyno. Do what you want, seriously! Jay |
