New owner 370 touring black cherry Help !!
Hey guys just got my z touring Blkcherry sport and LOVE IT! we have about 700 miles on her and I notice after about 1hour of driving the oil temp rises to 240f is that safe ? I have read of others having trouble tracking their cars but didn't read anything about street driving (not stop and go tracfic )or highway driving ? sorry if this is a dead horse but I dont want to damage my car Is 240* a safe temp? Thanks Guys !

its fine. the 370z is known for this issue of overheating oil temp. but becareful because once it hits 280 it will go into limp mode. if you're really worried you should order an oil cooler to just help the temperature a bit.

Sounds high to me for ordinary driving. I'd report it to the dealer to make sure you get no arguments later if warranty work is required.

yeah, i've gotten 220 before on normal driving, but i'm changing the oil soon and synthetic supposedly does help a little.

yeah a my dealer i think would hardly care I am never getting my car serviced where I bought it I have never had the temp above 240f but i am a little disappointed that a road car would need a after market oil cooler to work . By the by which oil coolers are the best?

It wouldn't hurt to pull the dipstick and see that the oil is up to the mark. Bye the way, are you following the break in procedure??? Not going over 3,500 RPM's, varying the speed as per the owners manual and etc? |
i agree with Old Guy seems a little high. Report it to dealer just in case..
Just follow break in procedures you should be ok.... Oh and if you ask about break in procedures here be prepared..:stirthepot: And also i would check the oil three or four times a week for the first 2000 to 4000 miles |
how long was your car sitting on the dealer lot before you purchased it? if it was sitting for 6 months + you should change your oil and you will notice slightly lower oil temps. Also if you switch to a better oil (nissan ester or redline) it should be slightly lower. Now if you were doing spirited driving and not just cruising at 70/80 then yeah 240 might be expected.

You are one of the unlucky ones like myself who got a car that runs hot. There are a few people on here who will say that it is impossible that your car is running hot just because theirs is not running hot, so you must be street racing or driving too fast... Each cast motor is going to have variances some may have had their cooling channels cleaned out better than others. Its a man made mass produced product and there will be differences from engine block to engine block. This is my Z there are many like it but this one is mine. Time for an oilcooler... Buy a quality kit from GTM or Z1 and you will be happy and not worry about oil temps again... |

Congratulations on you new purchase and welcome to the forum. I only see 240 when I push the car a little. I think if I were pushing 240 all the time I would be installing an oil cooler. As mentioned above, definatly keep an eye on your oil level. There are many other oil temp and consumption threads if you want to do a little extra reading.

:iagree: Great advice. Got the oil cooler myself and now 225*F is the highest temp I've seen. It almost makes the oil temp guage superfulous. Best of luck. |

At switch, the car doesn't feel all that great. But once you pushed a tank of gas through it. The engine feels stronger, smoother and I do notice better temps. My Z would see about 240 when pushed hard. With syn oil I would see 220-230 on the reg. I drive aggressive. I live in dallas. On another note. Just take it to the dealer and let them tell you what they think. Better safe than sorry |
I rarely do this but how many times do we have to beat this issue into the ground?
There are about 139 threads on this topic |

I think the best way to manage your oil temp concerns is to put a piece of duct tape over the oil temperature gauge.
|
With so many varied reports on oil temp, I question the accuracy and consistency of the stock gauges.
Maybe my gauge is faulty and I'm running hotter than I think I am. I drive the snot out of my car in the middle of summer and rarely see more than 225° without an oil cooler. |

i use my oil temp gauge as like a high score tool.
i drive around and see how high i can get it. 260 is the record. |

Mine hovered around 230 cruising down 281 from Lampassas to San Antonio and back last weekend.
|
I think this horse has been beat to death...........
imho nissan knew there could be some oil temp issue in some engines and thats the only reason why they put the gauge in the car in the first place... when it should have been an oil pressure gauge instead........... |
