370Z vs. G37
 

I know there are differences. The G37 is allegedly more "civilized." Equipped similarly, there's not that much difference in price.

For anyone who has driven both -- what's the "big picture"? What are the meaningful differences between the two cars. Is it that the 370Z has more of an edge? Is it that the G37 gets equipment (like telescoping wheel) that you cannot get on the Z? Or are they just two flavors of the same?

I'm curious. Granted that you can rarely use 70% of the capability of either car . . . What factors would make the G37 a better choice than the 370Z for somebody? Or, what would make the 370Z a better choice?

G37 has a back seat, small but has one. The G to me is more of a luxury ride car while the Z is the sports car.

I have owned both. I had a 08 G37 w/ Sport package 5AT before it got in a wreck and now I have the 09 370Z 6MT. MY wife and I have driven both and as you might guess she likes the G better and I like the Z better. She really liked all the luxury stuff like leather seats, IPod connection, 6 disc changer, and stuff like that. For me I could care less about all that stuff because I will be tracking this car a lot compared to the G and for me the G was just too heavy. I mean dependeing on what you want to do with your car I would go with the G if you are just using it as a daily driver and taking it for long drives on the weekend. But if you are going to get into any kinda of motorsports I would recommend the Z. We do have to kids by the way so having the G I was able to put my kids in the back and drive the car everyday. But since the Z is a 2 seater, my wife uses the car during the day to go to school and I use her IS300 to go to work and drop off the kids. Not a bad trade off for me to get the car I really wanted.

Thanks for the insight. How about visibility out the sides and back? Is there an appreciable difference? (I have to parallel park from time to time.)

I'm coming from a 2007 G35 Coupe and am looking at my next ride.
And it's between the Z and G37S Coupe.

Can anyone speak for the difference in the exhaust notes? Even between the G35, G37 and the Z?

I LOVE the exhaust note in my G35, I would hate it if either the 37 or the Z's were diminished in any major way from the 35.

The 370z definately has more blind spots...Im 6'...and sometimes its hard for me to see out the passenger and rear windows. Its a little unsafe... and as I have been used to cars with better visibility, its a little hard to get used to, imo.

I agree the blind spots on the Z are really bad and you have to rely on your side mirrors for the most part. I don't remember having any blind spot problems in the G, if there were it wasn't noticeable to me.

I considered both before purchasing my Z. The G has a few more toys than the Z most important one is the rearview backup cam. Believe it or not the two things that made my decision was headroom (my head banged the headliner when moving toward the window and the seat is narrower in the G. Bigger heavier car but I felt crowded!?

Does anyone know if the G37 has the oil temp problems of the Z?

^^Not sure on that, I don't remember it having an oil temp gauge or not. If it did, I never bothered looking at it.

Maybe THAT is the solution! Recall all the 370Zs and tear out those temp gauges!

^^^lol that would definetly get rid of the oil temp issue, what we won't know won't hurt us right?:icon18:

Regarding the oil issue, i have seen coolant collar style oil cooler on the G37, but haven't seen one on the 370Z, regardless of trim.

As far as comparing the two cars, night and day difference. I loved the look of the G when it came out, and the specs on it, but when i drove it, i pretty much hated it. Car felt two sloppy in the corners, and just overall heavy. The Z feels so nimble in comparison its unbelievable.

The Z also has some added chassis stiffening and braces that the G doesn't have, which may not be noticeable when new, after a few miles (especially w/ upgrades springs/shocks) will probably become more apparent. The Z has the rear braces that you will notice in a lot of the exhaust pictures, as well as the same "W" shaped brace that the Z33 chassis had, as well as a couple of braces in front of the front doors that connect the front sub frame to the body.

Really it comes down to if you want a sports car or a GT car.

its all about what type of life style you have.no kids?no grocery shopping,no fishing,no nothin...get the z..just drive..its all about you and your car..thats what i did!2nd week i got the 370..i went driving for almost 15hrs..took a lot of pix along the way..you only live ones..go all out..when you have kids.then its a diff story..definetly get the g..to be honest tho id rather get the is lexus than the g..zz'ss got a lot of blind spots even when parking and trying to look down your hood..lane changing..you really have to pay attention and take ur time..revearsing?..back up camera would be the solution to that..but other than all this misshalfs..the 370 is all about bzness..raw power and lots and lots of potentials..that's why i own a 350 n 370....if im going grocery..me and my girl would drive both cars...

Speaking from experience, bc I had a G37s and now have a 370Z I can tell you that the ride is very similar. Probably because it's the same suspension, same engine, same frame, etc etc. The G37 you can see out of the back way better and then on top of that you have a backup camera. The back seats fit more then small kids. I am always picking up a few girls with no problems maybe because I only like them skinny.
They both sound really weak stock, my G35 sounded way better. I never took the G37 to the track because its not that type of car in my opinion. I take my Z and now that I have an oil cooler and some other mods, it's actually fun.

The clutch and flywheel suck, I don't like the feel at all and while do something about it in the near future also.
