I agree with that, but then when I talk to GT-R owners I hear the same thing:
-Great on the track but boring on the street.

The Z is both, can be fun on the track and on the street. Now I am sure the GT-R can be fun on the street, but not from what I have heard.

This is such a great question! Honestly, before I looked in here, I'd never asked myself this question. It's an interesting dilemma.

On one hand, the GTR crushes the Z in performance. Plus it's AWD so I might be more comfortable driving it in the snow and wet. But it's huge and very expensive to maintain, and only available in automatic transmission (I'm a 3 pedal addict).

On the other hand, the Z is cheaper to maintain, comes with MT, and is imo prettier.

I think I'd still go with the GTR since my Z is a toy, not a DD, and I have a dog. But it's a very tough decision.

i like the gtr i considered it but when i heard pricing on repairs i think they are crazy so im going z for the price of a gtr i can get a z and go crazy with it

A GTR is to a 370Z what a 370Z is to a Miata minus it's fabulous doors.

SPOHN 06-20-2011 11:35 AM

It would be nice if the Z was AWD. But then you just go adding weight.

Fastfatdude 06-20-2011 12:05 PM

my hypothesis was based on just sticker price of car...

stories of 5000km gearbox oil changes that cost $1000... gearboxes that break and cost upwards of 20k to repair are common stories. I suppose the engine is robust enough, but seems like the smarter-than-the-average-bear gearbox is the weaklink.

used to love how the gtr looks when it first came out but now, i definitely think the Z is the prettier of the 2...sepcially since i own one.. heh

based on your hypothetical, if the GTR cost the same as a Z, its maintenece and repairs wouldnt be sky high like they are now. So yes I would get the GTR.

Now if your saying the other way and the Z was priced as high as a GTR, the Z's maintenence and repairs would be sky high as well in which case i'd be driving a corvette.

[QUOTE=Fastfatdude;1179382]Assuming both the Z and GTR are priced the same, would you get the GTR?

If the Gtr was the same price as a Z it wouldn't be a Gtr. If the Z had the same price of a Gtr it would have twin turbos, no oil temp issues, the engine would sound better and it would kick a Gtr's a$$ all day.
Give me the Z!!!!!!!

If they were both $35k, hell yes I'd have a GTR. 0-60 in 2.9s and 11s 1/4 mi. And if they were priced the same, repair costs would then even out as well.

With the price differential, I'd take the Z as I did. If they were priced identically, there's no decision to be had...GTR.

:iagree:

Definitely GT-R

If my Mom can drive it, then its not a "sports" car. I drove an auto Z just to keep an open mind. I call that riding, not driving. It will be a sad day when the true manual tranny goes away.

I'd get the Z hands down. I don't need dealership bull$hit. I don't need expensive upkeep. I don't WANT OR NEED all wheel drive, drifting FTW. I don't WANT OR NEED a stupid a$$ automatic transmission on a super car. The only good thing out of the GTR is a quick 0-60 and panties dropping on the floor.

And the Z already accomplishes the latter pretty well and the former isn't too shabby.

And please don't take me for an a$$hole because I'm not :) This is just my VERY firm opinion. I hate what Nissan has done with the GTR. Mainly because one of my top 3 favorite cars of all time is the R34 and I had VERY high expectations for the R35.

PapoZalsa 06-20-2011 01:42 PM

GTR = $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

which I don't have......

CBRich 06-20-2011 02:55 PM

Definitely GT-R. I'd be lying to myself (like some here) if I said otherwise. ;-)

HKYStormFront 06-20-2011 02:58 PM

100% GTR by far, i've driven both... the Z's great, the GTR is better.

and it's not an "automatic" transmission. it's an automated manual, there's a difference. yes i like to row my own gears but this is the best of both worlds. you get the control of a manual with the easy to use daily driveablity of an auto while it shifts (up and down) faster than anyone or any auto ever could

^^ +1 for me too. too boring to drive a stable fast car in AT on straight roads around here... :(

yah but you're only talking about clutch vs torque converter. everything else is automatic. daily drivabilty for me is easier in MT and i dont care how much faster the electric clutchbox can shift. it's not fun on straight boring roads around here.
