anyway to put things on track, here's something close to a myth...

Everytime you buy a perfectly fine pre-owned car, within a week, something will break/spoil/need replacement....

its like the car has a mind of its own and wanna rebel against the new owner...

There's a little bit of truth to that myth, though.

Whenever you buy a used car, you are buying someone else's problem. People sell cars for a variety of reasons, and among them is "the damn thing was broke all the time."

And some of the used vehicles you see for sale were former fleet or rental vehicles. You can rest assured that those have been thrashed to death.

When a company certifies their car after a 120-pt inspection, usually that inspection involves just visually glancing at a car to see that parts are present and installed, not really that they are properly functioning.

While it is more the exception than the rule, it is still more likely that you'll get a used car that breaks than you'll buy a lemon off the assembly line.
