uprev or wheel first?
My Mods so far are:
KW V3, HKS exhaust, AEM intake, berk HFC. For the next mod, I am thinking either uprev or volk TE37 // CE28N. What should I do first? I've heard a lot of great stuff from uprev so I am leaning toward to it more, but whenever I see my dropped car with stock rim, it makes me sad. Need to find an answer, help me guys! *edit I need 2 months to save $$ for volk and I have money to do uprev right away :) If I don't do the uprev, I can probably buy volk before the end of July |
rims or :gtfo2: :inoutroflpuke:
|
Well there is a huge gap in price, but if you got the money go for some good wheels.
|
Yea you're talking about 500-600 for up rev, or +4K wheel/tire combo for volks. I'm sure you can afford both if you're buying volks.

Oil cooler
|
Go before show! (Uprev, in case that wasn't clear)
|
+1 on Oil Cooler + Tune!
You really don't need new rims only for looks honestly. The sports package rims are good for now. When you are shopping for rims keep in mind that weight is more important than looks. |
Big difference in price. But how is your A/F ratios? That's very important. Also with wheels your going to need to lower the car if already haven't. Which in return you might also need and alignment kit. Just some perspective.
|
I choose rims. The uprev tune is not even worth it.

I got 20whp out of my tune alone. How is that not worth it combined with better A/F ratios. It probably took two of my breather mods to equal that. Which would be more than a tune. Now given not all are gong to get this much whp all the time. But on avg at least 10. In which you get the most out of your mods. And also correct the A/F which is a win win. |
Get both. Save some money and don't get TEs. Get some Forgestars or some Varrstoens, then you can get the tune, too. Probably even have enough money left over to get a BBK.
I wish I had gone this route. But at this point I would lose too much money. |
I got wheels before uprev & oil cooler.
Although an oil cooler is going to be next for me. |
Don't be like GTM and do all go and NO SHOW. Lol. Watch vid.

I'd rather be all go and no show any day of the week.

All the tune does is balances out the a/f ratio and nothing else really. No launch control, no VVEL modifiers, no raising the rev limiter, etc. If you got the money to spend, feel free to get the tune. But if you want to chose one over another, get the rims first. Rims add a "wow" factor to your sports car. It's not like you go out racing every weekend, line up with other cars on the streets like you've got something to prove, or redline through every stop light, do you? Basic bolt ons will change the a/f ratio, but it's not like your motor is going to blow up or anything like that without the tune. Get some nice rims. |

or get a junk civic and turbo that into a 9 sec car...thats all go for ya. But you chose show.
|
The Z is show and go, and I'm sorry, but I'd tune it first, too. Wheels look nice, but they're mainly an overpriced bling accessory, unless you're talking about lightweight 18" racing wheels.

UpRev is well worth it IMO and I plan to get it done in the future. Maybe it just me, but more power and torque always puts a bigger smile on my face. |
^ where is this guy getting his info?
|
I know they can at least do redline raises

I was at Performance Motorsports two weeks ago while someone's G37x was being tuned. It had full Stillen bolt-on's. |
A tune is totally worth it. I've had a canned tune done om my FX and a dyno tune on my Z. A canned tune will give you improvements if you're on a budget but for best results get a dyno tune. They can totally change the speed limiter and rev limiter. But don't get hung up on increasing redline. There must be a reason to do it (does the engine continue to produce more HP beyond 7500 rpm?)...the dyno will tell you.

Thanks everyone for the input.
I'll just throw some money into Uprev and see how it feels. Rather do it even if I regret it. Next project will be either Volk or Advan even if it will take me 1-2 months of waiting. And then FI!!! |

I know it's an old thread but is this the general consensus? What if mods are the following:
HPS post maf tubes, K&N drop-ins and modshack's fang mod Would a tune net some gains and increase my MPG? Thanks |
I just had an Uprev tune done to my car... very disappointing to say the least. I added an exhaust, RTP, and a tune, and netted 18hp. Womp Womp.

The answer to the OP's question is easy, I've got wheels already but no tune. I could have two sets of wheels and no tune, later in the year, or a complete car with a tune now. |
i say get a tune first just to get that extra hp. thats what im planning to do after purchasing an exhaust
|
Tune first. Then aesthetic bits imo
