Maybe it is time to trade

Check this article out.......... I'm only one year into my contract but just for
kicks since i'm off tomorrow i may go by the local dealership and see what my
09 would bring in a trade in. makes me kind of interested...

anyone care to guess what the trade in value will be? and i will report back...

it's a 09 with the sports package. perfect condition with 23,000 on it..

happytheman 06-09-2011 07:33 PM

Are you serious? What's the point? To see if you can get top dollar on your trade in?

b1adesofcha0s 06-09-2011 07:53 PM

Interesting. Would like to see the result.

nynhex 06-09-2011 07:56 PM

Keep your Z.. Why bother?

Carmax will give you top dollar on your trade-ins I can vouch for that.

The used market is crazy right now. People don't want to pay for the depreciation so they are hypnotized by "pre-owned".

I bought my 09 z with 31k on it for 24k out the door. Good deal if you ask me.

11Thumper 06-09-2011 09:21 PM

Unless you want another vehicle just keep the car. If you're looking to buy new any automaker is going to push the old "well you know what happened in Japan" crap.

My buddy was trying to buy a VW this past weekend and the dealership was talking about the huge demand they have now that Japan had the disaster. Because of this they "have" to keep prices high or else they would run out of cars in a single weekend.

I was like WTF...we're talking about a Jetta you have on the lot and you've got 11 more just like it. We're the ONLY people that have been here in the past 1.5 hours.

We just walked out.

PapoZalsa 06-09-2011 09:24 PM

They will probrably offer you $21K for trade-in, that is without looking at any BB.

Rebelman 06-09-2011 09:25 PM

would like to know

MeetJoeAsian 06-09-2011 11:38 PM

the used car market is up, but it's mainly on "everyday" fuel efficient and passenger vehicles...the prices are up on the cars that people "NEED", not "want"...gas guzzlers and big trucks are still taking a hit...sports cars aren't necessarily a need for most people, therefore your trade-in value won't be as high as you think....if you have what most dealerships considered a "cash" car, or something like a Camry/Corolla type of cars, those cars are bringing in the money and prices for them are up right now....

I'd say you'll probably get a bid around $23.5k - $24k for your 2009 if you were to take it to the dealership

That's because of all the idiots who thought cash for clunkers was a good idea. Now you can't find anything for your teenage kid at a reasonable price.

Fail.

i can vouch for what everyone is saying since i have one of these so called "fuel efficient" cars, a 2006 Chevy cobalt with just the regular 2.2 litre 4 cylinder, gets a good 36MPG on the highway. I was checking NADA and KBB a few months back and they listed my cars value at around $3000 for good quality. Come to check NADA and KBB about 3 days ago and had discovered my cars value had actually went up a good $1500 on NADA and about $500 on KBB, which kinda works in my favor since im going to be using my cobalt as part of my down payment anyways when my Z gets delivered in august, at least now i know why my cars value went up now lol.

yup. my 06 corolla i bought brand new for 15k OTD. kbb has it listed for something like 11k in "good condition" and 10k in fair. the car was advertised as 38mpg? crazyness!

The reason "luxury items" are not selling well right now is the economy. Lets have a little history lesson, though. Observe the trend...

United States Unemployment Rate

Set the date back to 1948...I think you will notice something.

Hang on to your sports cars a while longer...

Whatever, it stimulated the economy and saved the auto industry.

The cars that got chopped should never be for your kids anyway, they were mostly rape vans, trucks or V8 cars and poor RX-7s

Top dollar and trade in should never be in the same sentence :)

onzedge 06-10-2011 12:41 PM

Z's are to be kept or handed down to your kids, not traded in. They are not like wives.

TBOX 06-10-2011 12:51 PM

What's wrong with rape vans?

i was thinking it might be interesting to get a different color, and maybe a manual, but i dont think it's worth the hassle..plus, i always like correcting people when they say "is that your white 370", no its pearl, lol.

so reporting back went to two nissan dealers in my area within 20 miles of each other. neither had a 370 on their lot and didn't know when they would because of the earthquake in japan. both said they would love to have my car sitting on the used car lot. yeah right i know. one offered me 24,995
and the other 25,995. i figure that's not bad considering i paid 29,995
for it brand new. but for now i will be keeping the 370..

b1adesofcha0s 06-10-2011 08:14 PM

Not bad.

brado 06-11-2011 03:45 PM

ive been thinking about trading mine for a bmw. the dealership offered 26K to 29K without seeing my car. its an 09 with touring and sport. KBB says the car is woth 29.5K in "good" condition.

Not bad, that is about $3K more them what I thought.

Also it will depend of what area are you located. I don't think I'll get that in this damn area.

sonic370 06-11-2011 08:00 PM

you will be surprised right now on what a mint condition 370 will bring at
the right dealer. more than any mustang which is on every street corner..

supply and demand... 370's are rare ..

cossie1600 06-11-2011 08:15 PM

Most dealership go by the black book and the local auction price, KBB is a joke

tranceformer 06-11-2011 08:34 PM

I've been thinking about it for a while now....

I just took my Z to carmax today for appraisal. It's a base sport 6MT with 29,xxx miles clean, no accidents, etc. It is a bit high mileage for a 2 year old car (I've had it for about 27 months or so). They offered $22,000 - about what I expected. I owe a bit less than that, so I would get a decent check after paying off the loan.

The good news is if the car is still under warranty they do not have to take it for a test drive. They just need to look it over a bit to appraise it.

$22-24k is about what I would expect to get...I've never seen a dealership appraised a vehicle at $25,995 before, but it may be different in smaller cities..I'm in Houston, and these cars will sell, and dealerships around here are aggressive in their bids...but these vehicles are not your everyday runabout cars, so they are not in high demand right now. Eventhough Japan is hurting in their production, the 370Z is not a high demand vehicle...

It seemed like they really wanted my car for some reason. They said the quote is good for 7 days but I told them I probably would not go for it. When they brought over the written quote they 'manager' showed up with the salesman that I spoke with earlier. They wanted to try once more to go for the deal since the value of the car does not go up and of course the offer later down the road would not go up either.
