Get test pipes.

Dont be scared to the Stillen Gen3 install. It is very simple. The cutting only consists of trimming a little plastic, which if you had a dremel and your were 5yrs old you would still be able to do. I just installed test pipes last weekend and it was MUCH more of a pain in the *** then the intakes. Id go Gen3's. Plus you will get better gains from them.

really? I thought the stock intake was proven to be extremely efficient?

the stock setup is good because it is a CAI.. basically similar to the long-tube intakes. but there is some bottle neck at the box and the tubing from what i could tell.

They do say the stock intakes are pretty good. I noticed a definate difference in sound and performance after I installed Gen3's though :) Plus they make your engine bay look oh so pretty.

steveg78 06-07-2011 08:55 PM

Yeah I like the look but I can't justify 500 for them. If it was a significant gain I would have them already. But I'm sure I will get them eventually. Just did the FI CBE last month and tinted it last weekend. I can't believe I went a full year without any mods.

I got my gen3's durin a holiday sale. Bought a cbe and the intakes were free :) Stillen claims a 18 whp gain, which im sure SOME people have seen.

I got mine on a similar sale. I like the sound so much, I perceive a gain, real or not.

Did anyone run the K&N drop ins and post MAF tubing BEFORE they got the G3's? I was thinking about going the K&N route with the tubing. The biggest turn on I have been reading about G3's (and the Jim Wolf pop charger also) is that it is improving throttle response for some. This is the biggest problem I have with the 370z...it doesn't just want to "go" right when I start to hit the gas.

Stay away from the pop chargers, waste of $$. Id go the drop in route instead if your contemplating those. I def noticed an increase in throttle response from the Gen3 system.

Did you run the K&N drop ins before your G3 Alchemy?

Just so you are aware, you will not notice an increase in throttle response from Drop In filters. The gains are too minuscule to notice a difference in feel.

I didn't think it would. I just see SO many mixed reviews on the G3's being worth it/ not worth the $500

if you are unsure, best thing to do is wait it out, or do something else in the meantime.

THe Gen3's will give you the biggest gain in HP (noticable), however you will have to do some (minor) cutting, wont be able to go back to stock (so ive heard), and youll have to remove the bumper (not a big deal) every once and a while to clean the filters.

to some people 10-15hp for $500 is worth it, for others it is not. Very subjective, it comes down to what's best for you and your budget.

Alchemy 06-08-2011 08:55 AM

I did not run drop ins and post maf tubes, wouldnt waste my time or $$ on em.
