this makes me want to hit the limiter in my Z and on my Harley now...

Forumite 04-22-2009 08:54 AM

141 in my 370 the day I bought it while test driving.

178 in my 96 Mustang and 158 in my 05 Mustang (the hood shakes really bad around 120).

HOMESTEAD SPEEDWAY 165MPH DOING THE DALE JARRETT RACING ADVENTURE, MY 370Z WITH ONLY 485 MILES ON IT 85MPH:driving:

SiXK 04-22-2009 09:22 AM

according to my Garmin the fastest I have been in the 370Z is 112. Not sure exactly when that was but I have a good idea where.

I would say about 125 is the fastest I have ever been, anytime I go over 100 I always ease off once I hit 120.

and of course, this all occurs on closed tracks. :driving:

ncnickusa 04-22-2009 11:28 AM

I guess me and my Z will stay in the slow lane, my Z is to new and I'm getting a little slower. But in reply to top speed for the 370Z, the max speed is electroniclly limited to 155 MPH. I'm not the one to say this is so, but I have read it in several reviews. This is also confirmed by Road & Track in there testing. here is a link: http://www.roadandtrack.com/assets/d...370z_chart.pdf
155 MPH MAX

DinoJ 04-22-2009 11:38 AM

i dunno about that, i had 160 on the speedo unless its that innaccurate?

FlashBazbo 04-22-2009 11:44 AM

Most speedos are inaccurate -- and become wildly optimistic at higher speeds (for our own good). If you track speedo readings vs. a good GPS, you'll see the error pretty easily. (My Honda Accord is off by 3 mph at 70 mph. I'm confident my CBR600RR is off by more than that.)

My 132 in a '76 Camaro (back in '78 when I was young and stupid) was confirmed by four units of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. How's THAT for authentication?

Bikes are notorious for inaccurate speedometers. My friends GSXR600 was off by almost 10mph at higher speeds.

Yes, at least two members on this board that I know of, myself included, have verified the 160 speed limit on the stock ECU. Probably others who aren't talking about it too. In my case I hit it on the dyno though, so I wasn't breaking any laws.

Edit: now someone says 155. 155 is also where my dyno charts dropped off, but the tech behind the wheel said 160, so I assumed that was just some data issue:

But then I had to pause my game because someone was at the door. (Forza 2)
Never really been too fast in real life. I haven't had any safe opportunities to really get up there. I think 120 in a G coupe was the fastest I've been :\

sensi09 04-22-2009 12:25 PM

Doesn't happen too often, but I usually top out any of the car that I drive. Typically it's 155 limited. 120-130 isn't too much of a hassle, but unless you have heaps of power, you need a good amount of road to hit the limiter.

In a 545i, I hit 155 and was able to hold it for a good length of time. I was at about 140+ for a good 5 minutes.

370Z (AT)- Frequently hit 90+, so smooth at 100 you don't realize you're going fast until you approach other cars. Usually cruise at 75-80 and it's very quick to 90. I have my GPS set to alarm if I hit 90 and it's constantly reminding me. To date - 125 top speed. During hard acceleration it first shifted to 7th gear at 120. Very stable at 125 and felt like maybe 80-90 in my other cars..the neighbors got after me for speeding through the community...just kidding.

Yes, the 370 really is a dream to drive in the low 100s. It's extremely stable aerodynamically at speed, and the steering response is great. No problem dropping down from 7 to 5 (or even 4 if under 120) and getting great acceleration in that range too. Again, I just wish there was an 8 (or that 7 was taller) to keep the revs lower when cruising at speed.

Edit: ... on the high-speed closed track course I use regularly ;)

chubbs 04-22-2009 03:19 PM

Most people here seem to drive quite fast.

MC 04-22-2009 03:26 PM

155 in the GT-R on a track. it was actually scary because you could see where the next down hill turn was right infront of you.

tvfreakazoid 04-22-2009 03:46 PM

How did it feel like driving that fast on the new Z? Was it pretty stable at that speed?
They let you test drive that car going that fast!!!:eekdance:

Well I want to hear hitting closer to 180 if possible.

tvfreakazoid 04-22-2009 04:24 PM

How fast has anyone done on regular streets.

DinoJ 04-22-2009 04:24 PM

So theres only a few people who've hit 160? (155) that is very surprising to me. I thought it handled fantastically, no buzzing rattles or any kind of instability. Which is more than i can say for the other cars ive done so in.

Edit:

Tvfreakazoid this may have been on my private i-71 South. so to answer your question. 160

240 km/hr (~150 mph) on an autobahn north of Hamburg in a rented Benz. ~115 on the 101 in my Z.

I drove from Munich to Frankfurt and the only car they had at the rental was a Mazda 3 I believe. It was pegged at 110-120 (down hill with a tail-wind) and was like we were sitting still when the real cars passed by.

There are very few cops around here. Tax base can't support a huge police force so it works in our favor. Speed limits are 70 on the highways outside the city and most cruise at 80, so 90 isn't that far off.

When I travel to other parts of the country, the 55 or 60 speed limit is painful. It's the most frustrating thing to follow someone doing 50 in a 55 when you're used to crusing at 80.

In CA, you can be in a traffic jam at 80+..now that's a trip. Imagine driving through your garage at 80!

I can't remember the comedian, but he said, "there's only one correct speed, which is what you are traveling at. Everyone who is slower is an f'ing a$$hole. Everyone who is traveling faster is f'ing crazy!"

So true!

Sweet but I would of been a little scared. By the way, was the drive pretty smooth at that speed on a 350?

Bangin the rev limiter on my 06 CBR1000RR in 6th. I'm guessing that's somewhere around 190.

140ish in my S2000 and 130 in my TRD supercharged Tundra.

I took the very next exit which was about 2 miles down the road and dipped into my girlfriends neiborhood and parked in their garage. I waited about an hour before I took her to dinner that night.

The 350Z held up decent at those speeds. Better than my tC or civic. Even on the open highway is scary because my only thought was some idiot could have pulled out of no where or something crazy like a deer could have ran across the highway.

sensi09 04-23-2009 01:46 PM

In my last post, I hit those speeds on a rally to vegas. Back roads, with open stretches for days.

I topped out a 350Z on the back roads to vegas too. It was a rev-up engine and it took forever to get to the limiter. I barely tapped on the brakes at high speeds in that car and it was really sketchy.

i have done 125 in my dads old 1991 lexus ls 400 which had air suspension ( scariest feeling ever ) i have done 140 in a 2008 honda accord with only 177hp. ( i know you think its not possible but i had 4 ppl in the car and it was a downhill) in the z i have only done about a 100ish or maybe a little more. ( its not how fast your going that really matters its how fast you get to that speed that I care about )

Risking your own life is one thing. But having 4 people in the car while doing 140mph is a recipe for tragedy. Imagine if something goes wrong, and you're the only one that survives? How would their family feel? How would you feel? Think about that next time you want to speed with friends/family.

That's why I never go over 80 when I have passengers. I would've be able to live with the guilt. When I pushed my 350Z to 150, I was alone and it was midnight on a lonely stretch of highway that I'm very familiar with. If something goes wrong, I'm the only one that I want it to happen too.
