Comparisons, Comparisons, Comparisons

A lot of time here is spent comparing the Z34 to Z's and other cars present and past. Nothing wrong with that, but I think it tends to distort both the good and bad points of our cars.

For one thing, if you want to compare our cars to other sports cars, you have to use cars that cost $10-$30k more than the Z. If you want to compare it to muscle cars, well then you may not understand exactly what the 370 is.

We don't own the fastest, best handling car in the world. Does that shock anyone? I think we own arguably one of the most beautiful cars ever made; at least to me. If I could afford it, I would love to own a 911S. I am pretty sure it wouldn't be as much fun to drive; not because the 911 is inferior, but because I would worry about the cost of maintenance and repairs. Again, that's just me.

It all depends on what you want. I wanted a car that would take me to work in a fun way, look beautiful, and be able in stock form to go on the track for some nice HPDE. The Z does all of that.

Maybe I would take the Z over the 911. I am having a blast driving the Z. Even at 25mph on the way to work, I feel I am driving the car, not operating a motor vehicle. As a complete beginner on the track, the Z let me put down a good line at a good (for me) speed. My dream was to be able to drive on a track, not win some major event.

So, before worrying about whether the Z is faster, better, sportier than any other car, consider what value it delivers to you. Does the Z make you smile when you drive it? Do you like the way people react when they see it? Is it fun to take those corners? And, if you are lucky enough to take it on the track, does it let you feel the rush of driving a car as fast as you want?

Even if you compare the 370 with other "sporty" cars in Consumer Reports, looking past the "overall reliability" rating to the actual specifics, you find that the Z is actually a very reliable car. It has weak points. All cars do. The real comparison to make is whether the car will keep making you happy long after the new-car smell wears off.

Just sayin'

You may have shocked the shocker..

The 370Z is pure sex! It is hot, loud, and rough!

U MAD ABOUT COMPARISON POSTS? haha.

Posts about comparisons will always happened. If you go to any 8th gen civic forum, they keep comparing themselves to Mazda Speed 3s. For us, it's Mustangs and BMWs. On the 7th gen celica forum, someone will always throw the Acura RSX bone.

Considering the car is still in "new car" status, a lot of people who bought a 370z just buys it because it's new rather than "loving" the car for what it has. But hey, what do I car, I still own my 240sx that's currently collecting dust.

good point(s)

to me it's all about bang for the buck

I can't afford the Ferrari Thomas Magnum drove on TV

in Hawaii no less

anyway

in the real world I want all I can get (afford)

I'm probably not thankful enough for what I've already got-

a year in and I'm still grinning

Well for me the first test drive i took in the Z settled it all for me and i do love all the features you get in a very decently priced package, guess you could say it was love at first drive lol.

I really enjoyed reading what you had to say, SeattleLion. My lust for the 370Z began immediately after I discovered a simple picture of it that was packaged with an article announcing it as the successor to the 350Z. The enhanced look of the 370 won me over at that very moment in time. I couldn't believe my eyes, really. I was truly blown away by the direction in which Nissan's engineers took the Z's overall appearance. Two years later and with much satisfaction, I was able to buy one.

I found the ones I drove to be quiet, decent riding even over rough streets/railroad tracks, and no heat from the driveline at all that I could feel.

I understand this is your opinion, which is fine and dandy... And I think the Z does look good... but I would never put it on that high of a pedestal. If you mean in its price range, then I could probably agree with your statement, but not out of all the cars ever made... That's just a bit crazy.

I agree.

Personally, I think the F458 takes that spot currently

It's not crazy. He's just in love! :p

And I would basically agree with the OP: I think it's one of the most beautiful cars out there today. Best of all-time? Well, that's a tougher sell, but I definitely think it's up there.

I don't mind sayin' it... the 370Z kills my 'Stang in the looks department.

i have had many sports cars. rx7, mr2, 350z, svx, corvette c6, rx8s, miata. the 370 is not the fastest, not the best looking, not the cheapest or most expensive, but i found myself to be the most comfortable in it. with all that said, i would trade it in in no times if i can find a better car without paying extra or paying at all. i really want to have an audi tt now, even the new m coupe seems attractive
