Car almost stalls after start.

Well, I am up to 9,700 miles on my 09' Z and am experiencing an issue that has me a bit worried. After the car sits for awhile (I can't say exactly how long because I am trying to start after it has been sitting overnight), when I press the start button, the car has no problem turning over, but once it does it starts to stumble for a few seconds and almost stalls out. The RPM's stay below one at this time..but after a few seconds the RPMS bump up to where they should be and it starts to idle no problem. I also feel like the car's throttle response just isn't what it should be. The pedal feels very heavy compared to my 350 and I know it should be more re-active than what it is. I am wondering if maybe it is a filter or injectors? However, I am not an expert when it comes to cars and am turning to you gurus for some advice! Thanks in advance.

USMCASA 05-10-2011 08:46 AM

bad gas? i'd definitely take it to the dealer asap

especially at the 9700 mile mark...

i always find that dealers give me less of a hard time pre 10k mile mark...

usually no questions asked cars considered relativley "new"

yah, it could be a number of things, just take it to the dealer for the time being.

Let us know what they find out.

What sucks is that I have had TERRIBLE experience with this dealer in the past. I will maintain a stern "don't f*ck it up" attitude and see where it gets me.

The pedal shouldn't have an particular feel as it is just a potentiometer and a spring.

It would seem as though the start up tune is off due to a faulty sensor and the car is running a bit too lean. They might ask that the car be kept overnight to reproduce the problem.

well i dropped it off at 11 as instructed, but was informed they will call me at about 2 o clock. So there i sat looking for rides back to work when finally they offered a shuttle back..the shuttle gets here and the man driving smelled heavily of alcohol...sigh :shakes head:

My car had the same stumble at about 11k miles. I pulled the air filters out and gave them a bit of a wipe down with a dry paper towel. It resolved my issues. FYI, I'm not too cheap to by new air filters, I just had an injen intake on the way already.

i've got 62k on the Z now and have never had this issue. make sure the dealer gets this fixed.

I read about this too on Myg37, It's possible your throttle bodies are dirty too. Take a look.

I had a similar issue with my car on about 29k miles. Took it to the dealer and they told me it was probably carbon residue on tb's, (mainteinance and not covered by warranty) I cleaned those up and It's starting normally again, and not dipping rpm's when idling.
