What happens.....

If I push the Engine Start/Stop button as Im cruising down the highway?

I've always wanted to try it but never had the balls to do it.

Hold it for two seconds and the engine will stop per the owners manual.

I was driving down the highway and thought of the toyota/lexus incident. I then glanced at the start/stop button. I was very curious and tempted

Doesn't the ejection seat fire?

spearfish25 05-02-2011 07:21 AM

You can do this test on a small street other than a highway and at a slower speed...

kenchan 05-02-2011 09:24 AM

yah, chances are your steering wheel will lock and you will be going 55mph down the hwy with no control other than partial braking... :ugh2:

It sounds more like too much brain, not a lack of balls.

Jaedub, you drive a Manual. If the Toyota/Lexus thing happened to you, just hit the clutch and pull it out of gear. Disaster averted.

I did this when the throttle cable snapped in an old Fiero of mine. Even with WOT, the car won't move unless it's in gear.

It will do nothing. As stated before you need to hold the button down while in motion in order to shut the engine down.

How can he possibly resist the maddening urge to erradicate history at the mere push of a single button? The beautiful, shiny button? The jolly, candy-like button? Will he hold out, folks? Can he hold out?
