At Stillen right now..

10 Attachment(s)
I'm at Stillen facility in costa mesa,ca to get
The exhausts installed and Wow they have a
great facility here. And talk about customer service,
They are second to none. Dean showed me around
Their facility with their new upcoming 600 rwhp GT-R
And 800 Rwhp ford GT. Also saw like 10 Stillen modified
Vehicles with fancy paint jobs of all different colors
upfront...350zs, g37s, mustang GTs, and a
couple more. Felt like I was in the set for
The fast and furious.. LOL

Well my point is If you guys are in socal then
You guys should check it out. :)

nogoodname 04-13-2009 12:41 PM

take some pics of the cars......i'm too far from there.....lol

MarcusMIA 04-13-2009 12:53 PM

How much do they charge you to get the exhaust installed?

nogoodname 04-13-2009 12:57 PM

good question, it can't be that hard to do, just paying mostly for using a lift.

It's not everyday people can get the manufacturers to install the system.

nogoodname 04-13-2009 01:01 PM

true, need an appointment

i'd rather get one installed from a private garage that I know well...... actually that's my only choice b/c i'm not in SoCal...ha

mattkim85 04-13-2009 01:05 PM

Yea I did make an appointment

And the price is not bad $100 /hr

$1260 for the exhaust +$100 will cost me around $1450ish.

sensi09 04-13-2009 01:09 PM

They're charging you two hours labor? That's way too much. I'd pay no more than a $100 to have an exhaust installed.

SOLISIMO 04-13-2009 01:10 PM

Can you please take pictures of the facility, that sounds cool

nogoodname 04-13-2009 01:18 PM

yea, i wanna see the facility also..... over here, the rates per hour is 30 for general mechanics, but dealerships and manufactures charge a lot more.

sensi09 04-13-2009 01:27 PM

They do have a nice facility. During their Stillen open houses, they offer discounts and I believe free installs for many parts. Try to bargain down the install price....it should take them maybe 30-45mins tops.

Forumite 04-13-2009 01:37 PM

LOL it takes a manufacturer 2x longer to install their stuff than it did me and I only have blocks and a incline driveway.

mattkim85 04-13-2009 01:39 PM

guys...$1260 + $100 + the crazy 9.25% sales tax..
They are not charging me 2 hours of labor LOL

nogoodname 04-13-2009 01:39 PM

enough install bashing, the guy is just wanting his new exhaust...lol...and we're ruining it for him....

try 15% sales tax, then complain about it.......lol....

thats your problem, your canadian:wtf2::icon17:

sensi09 04-13-2009 01:46 PM

Oh yeah man, the tax is killer.

nogoodname 04-13-2009 01:50 PM

things go on sale then when you add in the taxes, it just plain out ruins it completely...lol

sensi09 04-13-2009 02:03 PM

I always prefer to use a local vendor for convenience, but for some items I purchase out of state to avoid sales tax. For many items, the shipping is less than the sales tax, and it gets delivered right to your door.

SOLISIMO 04-13-2009 02:04 PM

Stillen is like Steeda for mustangs. They are expensive BUT its worth it. These guys know their sh!t

StLRedrider 04-13-2009 03:05 PM

We need some:pics::

tvfreakazoid 04-13-2009 03:38 PM

How do they sound?

OMGWTFBBQ 04-13-2009 03:58 PM

Awwww. Why didn't you tell me. I was down the street at OCC at that time. :(

I could have stopped by and taken a look.

Josh@STILLEN 04-13-2009 04:04 PM

Matt, thanks for coming down and having that installed! Glad you got a chance to poke around the place and see some of the stuff we have going on.

I would encourage any of you in the area to come down, I'd be happy to give a tour.. just let me know..

mattkim85 04-13-2009 04:40 PM

thanks kyle
your guys are great :)

finally got home in a 2 hour commute in crazy I-5 traffic
but enjoyed most of the ride home :)

sounds really great.
like they said.. no droning
great sound under load.
felt like the car was pulling harder on the top end.
i couldnt stop downshifting to hear the car sing lol.

but one thing thats bugging me is there is a small rattle
when im pressing on the throttle in cold start but tends
to go away when heated up.

the mechanic at the shop noticed this in the garage where the
sound was clear and saw underneath
to find no loose bolts.. but mentioned that its probably the sound
coming out of the berk hfcs i had on.

oh well, if it does get worse then i would prolly go back to check it out
but as of now.. didnt notice anything harsh on the way here.

Josh@STILLEN 04-13-2009 04:49 PM

Is it a rattle or is it a rasp? HFCs can be raspy under throttle..

I talked to the service guys and everything was tight when it left, and clearing the crossmember just fine..

joeyz10 04-13-2009 04:54 PM

I am impressed by Josh on how he follow-ups his customers. I will be seeing Stillen soon too. I am from Socal.

After driving around more it does sound like a rasp.
Definitely not a rattle issue... Sorry if I made it unclear.
But like I said the rasp tends to go away after warming
It up. :)

arcticreaver 04-13-2009 08:25 PM

looks like they didn't get a chance to sell the red 350z. damn that 350z looks sexy. but i want to visit this place as well. man i know it's going to be very far from my place. probably a 2 hr commute as well.

AK370Z 04-13-2009 08:26 PM

Matt, you have to let the exhaust break in first. When I was driving around in the Z for the first 800 miles, I could barely even hear the exhaust. NOw, at 2000 miles, it's completely broken it. I can make a little kid cry if I rev too high! You'll get the real sound in about 500-800 miles (IMO).

Actually we did sell the 350Z.. but it's having some stuff added to it by the new owner before it leaves. Sad to see it go, but as you guys noted, there is a ton of cars on the compound, and we're working on the newer applications..

Hmm... We will not be able to install the HFCs at our facility. Due to california/federal law, these are not to be used on the road, so we're not allowed to install them and let you drive off with them. :shakes head:

We'd be happy to install the exhaust for you.. $99

nogoodname 04-14-2009 12:25 PM

zsport1 04-14-2009 03:52 PM

I always stop by Stillen when I go to Cali for work. Since it's right there behind the airport and you can see it from the runway why not. I know some of the guys there and they have given me tours before and I always enjoy seeing Steve Millens 300ZX IMSA car that the keep back in the shop.
