I'd love to know what that "problem" is, and if a tune can fix it. I know my tune from Uprev didn't change that at all.

Yea i have no idea if you can fix it....

i just like downshifting a gear before i accelerate so i can hit the 4500 rpm range, thus getting rid of the acceleration "delay" present when accelerating in auto mode...

however yesterday i double down shifted which i assumed couldnt be good....

flashburn 04-14-2011 04:35 PM

I drive in Manual mode about 90% of the time, and the delay happens in that mode too. I'd love to just figure out whether or not it's random, so I could predict when the delay will happen.

Also, when you switch from Auto to Manual (depending at the RPM, obviously), it will down shift twice. For example, going highway speeds, it will go from 7th to 5th.

Six quarts in 2,900 miles.

What is it now with the new engine? : Two quarts in the first 1,800 miles then it miraculously stopped. Coincidentally when I put on the intakes.

Thanks for asking.

I frequently double downshift accelerating off a ramp - 3rd gear is good for getting up to highway speeds quick.

In auto mode the car definitely isn't afraid to get above 7000RPM.

Peak power at the engine isn't what matters, its power in gear, and at redline you are always putting down more torque than at the same speed in the next gear.

I attached a PDF showing that around here somewhere...

I did a few tests on the way home, and on the 7AT, 7500 RPM is definitely the where the rev limiter kicks in. This was with my Uprev tune, I didn't think to try the stock tune, but the rev limiter was supposed to be left the same.

In my completely uneducated opinion, I don't think there is any real difference in engine wear if you are shifting around 7k rpm and 7.5k rpm. They put the rev limit at 7.5k rpm for a reason. Someone feel free to disagree with a more educated reason on why this isn't correct, please. :)

Redline and rev limiter are the same thing, it is a soft rev limiter on these cars which is why you might not feel it cutting in as distinctly. If you floor it and bring it up to the rev limiter, it feels like power smoothly dials back so the the revs do not continue to climb, kind of like an electronic top speed limiter.

It is 7,500rpm also, found that out for myself the right way. :driving:

flashburn 04-14-2011 06:35 PM

Yeah, it's definitely a soft limiter. I could see the rpm's go slighter over 7,500, before it dialed it back down to exactly 7,500 rpm.

Thanks for the information. I am glad it is working out well.

People would probably disagree with me on this, but in my opinion, its not revs or spirited driving that kills an engine. Its time. In 15 years, time and improper maintenance will do much more damage than bringing it to redline a few times a day.

wh1te370z 04-19-2011 01:04 PM

Every stop light, stop sign, turn, yeild... no lift shifts all dayyyyy  :driving:

NickBaragona 11-24-2011 12:19 PM

So is the rev limiter the light that comes on? It doesn't actually bounce like the rev limiter in most cars?

Skeeterbop 11-24-2011 12:33 PM

During normal driving, rarely. But every other week I go out to the track and while I don't hit the limiter, I do let it get very, very close 3 times each run.

6MT 11-24-2011 02:35 PM

I don't have to worry about the limiter. :ugh2: (UpRev removal)

Limiters.... we don't need no stink'in limiters!

Blazing Saddles reference

RoshDawg 11-24-2011 03:02 PM

Probably 3 times a week. You gotta get your money's worth!

Baer383 11-24-2011 04:47 PM

Allot ,every time I drive it:driving:

alcheng 11-24-2011 05:34 PM

Redline? Yes, every time I start the engine.

you know what I mean.....

LOL

:icon18:

Seriously, I only have the car for 2 months, haven't hit the redline or rev-limiter yet.

When I was driving the 350z, I hit the red couple times, but when the VQ35 rev above 5500rpm, the vibration was just sooo much that felt like the car was going to fall apart....

haitech 11-24-2011 05:41 PM

25xx miles and haven't touched redline yet

sonic370 11-24-2011 05:42 PM

maybe once or twice a month depending on driving conditions.

i have the 7AT just love between 3nd and 4th.
or being in 7th and when passing dropping it down
to 4th

I don't hit the rev limiter but I see the shift light a couple of times during my drives.

Baer383 11-24-2011 07:44 PM

I set my idle @ redline:bowrofl::bowrofl::bowrofl::roflpuke2:

Me either, just a red flashing light*. Just before my short block replacement I hit it a lot (just because it I didn't have to live with the consequences). It always cut in as I was about to shift anyway so it never caught me off guard when the throttle cut out.

* set @ 7,000rpm

bleufiend 11-25-2011 07:05 PM

I can count on two hands the number of times I've gone to red line. It's not necessary. There's no power to be had beyond 7k unless your modded and tuned.

It depends on what you are using the car for.

If you are going to bible school or church then I wouldn't hit the rev limiter.

But if you track the car or drive it like a real sports car then you will hit the rev limiter quite a bit.:driving:

AllForTheCash 11-26-2011 07:55 AM

There's a rev limiter? Never...

Kenny 11-28-2011 12:42 PM

I hit it the first time two days ago after reading this thread.

Good to know that little red dot in the tachometer works.
