How'd you get started

hey all, just wanted to start a thread about this subject, been wondering about it for a while but havent really come up with everything as of yet sooooo........

pics, videos exc welcome too!

Question is......

What made or got you turned onto the Z in the first place? what started this love affair between Man (or woman) and this beauty of a beast for you personally?

For me, it just happened by chance, wasnt looking for a new car, not even thinking about it...well if you remember i was debating on a rx8 but kept looking through different dealerships. an then all the sudden i saw or read something about "affordable sports cars" and there was the Z so i logged onto Nissan's website and BAM! instantly breathless.....and it was Love at first sight...

what say you guys?:yum::excited:

I was a starving mechanic working at a Nissan dealer fresh out of votech in 03-04. I really liked the 350's. Didn't think I would ever be able to own one. I switched careers. Got in the oil field. My income is stable enough for me to be comfortible with a car payment. My old classmate from votech that is still turning wrenches told me that the 370 was worth the extra 10K when they were clearing out the old 350Z stock. That cemented that I was going to get a 370.

I was just out of high school, worked all summer and bought a 3 year old 280Z. It was my affordable Jag. :icon17:

I was in the market for a sports car. My best friend said " you need to check out the new 370z!!".... First look, I fell in love....... named her Molly!!! I love this car!!!

6MT 04-09-2011 02:14 PM

5th sports car buy for me. Always wanted a Z.

Eagle 04-09-2011 02:50 PM

Started with my dad and his orange 280Z in the mid 80's. I was probably about 4 or 5 when he got it, to me it was teh sex and Z's forever since have become a major influence on me and my life.

This is my second sports car, second Z and the best car I've ever owned to date by far.

OldGuy 04-09-2011 03:05 PM

Bought my beloved zippy Miata 15 years ago (yes, it has Miata doors) but always missed more power. So I added the far more powerful Z and now have a sports car of both types. I enjoy them both, choosing one of them (or my Altima coupe) in the morning based on my mood and the weather. Only in America!

FuszNissan 04-09-2011 03:10 PM

Started when my father had a Datsun Race team in the late 70's early 80's.....rest is history.

Red__Zed 04-09-2011 03:14 PM

Closest thing to another s2000 available new.

Cell 04-09-2011 03:21 PM

Around the end of 2009, I saw the Nismo on youtube and from there I just had to have it.

gr8-wrx 04-09-2011 03:23 PM

For me, it was totally an impulse, mid-life crisis purchase. Was previously thinking about a used C6 Corvette, but when my wife and I saw the Z roadster, it changed our minds. Wasn't planning on buying a car that day at all.

wilsonp 04-09-2011 03:30 PM

Looking for a sports car daily driver, couldn't find another NSX i wanted, was tired of going out of town for maintenance for the NSX, thought the Cayman was a bit pricey, would also have to take it out of town, say some 370Z articles talking about the improvements, liked the high-tech engine.

Test drove a roadster, decided the 370Z was the one, lucked up when a 2009 with everything I wanted came up locally for sale (one owner trade).

Nismo221 04-09-2011 03:31 PM

For me my uncle collected the old Datsuns. Then one day he bought a 1992 300zx tt and I fell in love. At 15 I got my first Z, it was a 1990 2+2 300zx white. I passed on the 350z but when the 370z came out I knew I had to get one.

SPOHN 04-09-2011 05:27 PM

My dad had a 72 240 so I always followed the Z growing up. This is my second one.

LONDON2012 04-09-2011 05:46 PM

In 05, right after high school, I saw a daytona blue 350z vert drive by. I had no idea what it was. I googled and eventually figured out it was a 350z. I went to the dealership and had sticker shock. It took me until September 09, but I was able to buy a used carbon silver 08 coupe. I loved that car. Then my wife totaled it in February of 2010. I couldn't afford a 370z yet, so I bought a 1990 300zx. I love the t-tops. Still tying to sell the 300zx. After that's gone I should be able to buy 09 370z Nismo in November. Eventually, I'll own another 08 carbon silver 350z again as my weekend toy, garage queen. As much as I like the 370z, I'm still in love with the 350z. I have a whole list of mods to do to one when the time is right. That'll be the one car that I own the rest of my life.

I also really enjoy the Z community. ZCON was an amazing experience and this forum is top notch!

I subscribe to R&T , C&D , and Motortrend.

Guess what they all thought about the new Z

after a month of research

I pulled the trigger

Montez 04-09-2011 06:25 PM

Well my aunt had a 240Z, oldeer cousin 260Z Mom had a 83 280ZX and my older brothers had 280ZX's, 300ZX's and later Maxima's. Fell in love with them since, had mix of Z's and Maxima's since 89.

shadow2k 04-09-2011 07:16 PM

I had originally settled on a Mustang because there were no good 35-40k sports cars that I wanted. Then the new Camaro SS came out, which I did like quite a bit, but still never got off my butt to go drive one. Then I saw the new 370z in a comparison video of a Genesis v Mustang v Z. I remember digging around for every video and review I could find of the Z that weekend, that's how I ended up here actually. I went to a dealer the next week and dropped down a deposit.

I'd never considered a Z because I didn't like the way the 350 looked. The rear end was too long, and the only thing that balanced it out was if you dropped a huge FnF style wing on the back of it, so yeah...never considered it. I wasn't aware of the 370z until I saw the video, which I was watching only to see if the Genesis was worth a crap.

So yeah, the Hyundai Genesis actually led me to my Z. So it actually was worth a crap I guess...

I was driving a 97 taures and my dad had a 2003 mustang.. i somehow convinced him he needed a new car so he gave me the mustang and came home with the orange colored 350. I loved it... he was in an accident which left the orange z totalled and him unscathed.. nissan was good enough to get him a brand new 350 in silver with orange seats. Again i fell in love and wanted one of my own.. i patiently waited till i could afford a 350. I tried again to convince my dad he needed a new car, and again i succeeded. Except this time the silver Z went to my mother!! He brought home a pearl whitr 370 and from then on i had to have one. I saved and saved and caught a deal on a 40th and jumped all over it. Now there is 3 z's in the driveway and im very happy to say one of them is mine!!

I saw this advertisement in a movie theater while waiting for Terminator 3 to start and knew it was my next car!

When I read and saw bestmotoring vids about the 370Z being smaller and wider, faster than the 350z that caught my interest. Was looking for fast small V6 fun. she's perfect. :p

Owned an 09 A4, during this short ownership I ended up unplanned and unexpectedly at a nissan dealership about 6 times all different dealerships too, just staring at the car, the car was telling me take me home... i started to save to loose a lot of money on the A4 and may of last year i drove home with her.

Grew up driving Alfa Romeo's and hating Datsun (which was cleaning up with 510's in TransAm at the time). Evolved through a variety of sports cars, including a Lancia, Volvo 1800S, Porsche, MG, a couple Mercedes SL's. A couple of years ago our driveway had a blue Audi TT, a saphire Mercedes SLK and a red Mazda RX8. The German cars were killing us with expensive service. All of the Nissan's we've owned have been reliable, including a '91 Sentra SE-R, and an '85 Nissan Maxima. So we decided our next sports car would be Japanese. When the 370Z came along we said, "That's it!" and here we are. Still have 2 Audis (orange TT and imola yellow S4 Avant), but the Z is our fun summer toy.

In 2005 I was in a parking lot on my university campus and there was a silver 350Z there and I had never seen one. I did everything I could for years until I got a Z, and the 370 happened to be released before I could get a Z, and I like it even more!

So yeah, i walked by one in a parking lot and had to have one someday.

Guavazo 04-10-2011 12:57 AM

in late 10, looking into good sports car for around 30 to 35k, and once i saw Z and join this website. I was hooked to get one, finally got my Z last month, I'm a very happy man now! :D

In ~98/99 dad bought a used Z32-TT. I didn't know much about Nissan and Z's (really wanted a souped up '98/'99 Accord coupe), and my car was an '87 200SX SE-V6 (retired in '05).

Anyhow, when it was time to plan for the next car photos of the Concept Z emerged in '99. It did not stir much interest at all.:
http://www.carstyling.ru/resources/c...nissan_z_1.jpg

Dad and I later found a black 2004 Z32-TT in immaculate condition. Neither of us knew how to drive a stick, so we had to let it pass. Looking back, I wish I got this car, but I was around 17-18 and was nowhere mature enough to handle something with this much power. The engine was silky smooth, had few door dings, interior was clean, etc.

A couple years into college and still looking around for cars a new image appeared. This is what started my obsession. So for the next couple of years I joined jmanz.com (later became my350z.com) in search for new concept photos and leaks:

Not knowing what a VQ35 felt like, in March '02 my dad and I test drove a VQ35 Maxima. We liked it so much we ended up preordering the 350Z, which arrived in October '02.
http://images.thecarconnection.com/m...00029593_m.jpg

I had it for 6 years before selling it and placing an order for the 370Z, which arrived in April '09.

KInd of a family thing for me. Back in the late 80's both my sister & cousin had 280Zs, then a few years later my cousin got a 300ZX. I have always loved that body style, & was bummed when he had to get rid of it because he was getting too may tickets (the very early 20's male need for speed & all of that).

Fast forward to 2008, & I'm nearing a position to where I can seriously make an effort to get a 350, & while overseas, I hears something about a new Z. Waited months & months for the car mags to do a first drive & all that. I was hooked from the first image I ever saw. I subscribe to the theory of never buyng a new car the first model year, so I've been biding my time since 09, but it will happen for me Thanksgiving of this year. Damn thing is that I have the kind of job where I can save up to buy a Z cash in about 8 months, but I'll only be home in the states 45 days out of the year to drive it.
