85 would be nice :D

halogodx 04-08-2011 08:45 AM

So now when I follow my rule of 15 over the speed limit , I can do 100 instead of 85 ?

kenchan 04-08-2011 09:52 AM

wow, they trying to control population in TX?

there are too many of you, now drive fast and... :icon14:

Mr. Q 04-08-2011 12:01 PM

I'd love to see 85 as the legal limit. I'm doing 80 as I come off the on-ramp anyway.

phohman 04-08-2011 12:05 PM

I want to Go to a car meet on that highway!

Mark Gomez 04-08-2011 12:13 PM

Finally!!! everybody is already driving 80mph or more anyway!

Zaggeron 04-08-2011 12:15 PM

It will be easy for the traffic engineers to find roads with plenty of straightaways. Much more difficult for them to find roads with not much traffic.

Ian B 04-08-2011 12:27 PM

Got to love my state.

Ian B

Da.Menace 04-08-2011 12:31 PM

85mph... gotta love that!

austex 04-08-2011 12:43 PM

Not exactly what the bill says...
This would only apply to newly built roads if the engineering proves the road can support the higher speed limit.

We're lucky if we can hit 60 around here with all the traffic! I would guess this might apply to future toll road expansions here in central texas. Of course, lest we forget, our state and our transportation dept are pretty much broke.

kenchan 04-08-2011 01:29 PM

houkouonchi would have more things to worry about like tire alligators and parts coming off cars in front of him than just washer fluid. :icon17:

Between central Texas (Austin/San Antonio) and west Texas (El Paso) is about 3 "normal" states worth of nothin' much! :D Not commonly known is we already have some 80 MPH roads out that way, so it's not as big a step as the media would have you believe.

GZ3 04-08-2011 02:08 PM

this is kinda scary considering some of the idiots on the road

They manage to get by in Germany just fine with no speed limit on the Autobahn.

yes thnx, was in german for over 3 years. They are used to it, the autobahn is still not for the faint hearted, Most parts of the Autobahn DO have a speed limit of 130 km/h, If there's a round white sign with grey diagonal lines going thru it that means that there's no speed limit.

we will see i guess

theDreamer 04-08-2011 04:08 PM

I am perfectly fine with this, especially since this will only be in rural areas and be on new/rebuilt roads.
Honestly, travel from Houston to Dallas, I was being pushed when I was doing 90mph on I45 and I was in the slow lane with people still passing. I think Texans can handle it but of course there will be a few idiots.

Yep, going to other cities is not as bad because there are more small towns you travel through and force people to slow down (speaking of Houston to Austin/S.A./etc.)

I've heard the number of accidents is proportionally around the same too. I'm so jealous of this 85 mph speed limit. I would love that kind of speed limit here.

NyCSnEaK 04-08-2011 09:26 PM

I have been dreaming about the day NJ goes up to 75... The closest state to NJ that does 75, is Dubb V. You Texans are spoiled with your 5 lane highways and, hopefully 85 speed limit.

ShoFamous 04-09-2011 03:36 PM

Most of I-10 is already 80mph anyway up until you get closer to San Antonio. & that's coming all the way from El Paso too. Not too bad tho, I'd like to see the increase in more of the country areas.

LunaZ 04-09-2011 05:27 PM

Higher speed limits make sense in big states with wide-open, rural stretches between towns.
When I was in Montana, you had to drive 85 on the highway if you wanted to get to the next town in less than an hour!

I don't see how higher speed limits would be a good idea in a congested state like NJ, though.

sonic370 04-09-2011 07:53 PM

most of us are already doing 80 where conditions allow..
so there giving us 5 more mph!

A lot of people are already driving that fast there anyway, especially on the NJ turnpike. Of course this would just give them reason to drive faster :p
