Dealer Logo

Before I try, has anyone had any luck (good or bad) removing a dealer stick-on logo from the rear of a Magnetic Black Z?

kenchan 04-06-2011 03:07 PM

on cars with dealers on mine, i used low heat and my nails to pull up the sticker. then removed the goo with googone on soft MF towel, waxed afterwards. :)

9Zs_Ed 04-06-2011 03:13 PM

Ah! Low heat. That makes me feel better about it.

THANKS KENCHAN!!

When I worked for Ford and a customer complained, we used a heat-gun, some patience, and a bit of whatever "goo remover" for cars was popular at the time.

I remember one time I sold a truck with some cheesy "barbed wire" decal running all around it like pin-striping. That was a PITA.

yah, regular heatgun might be too hot for this application so i use the small emboss heatgun sold at those artsy stores for such projects. :)

Any chance of posting a close-up pic of the dealer emblem? We can give you specifics after that as you can really f@ck-up the paint if done wrong...and owners have.

Did you just purchased your car & they applied their sticker on it?
If so, go back to your dealership & have them remove it for you.

I always instruct the dealership not to apply any type of dealership sticker to my car or they can cancel the deal...I hate advertising for dealerships unless they pay me :)

im not sure if this is a good idea. the porter is probably not qualified to remove it correctly and they will be make you look like an arse for 'making' them remove the logo.

LOL, true but I'd be standing behind them with a big stick:shakes head:

I used fishing line and a blowdryer to remove my rear "370Z" emblem. It took some time to remove all the adheasive, but its not that difficult. You just need to take your time. I used a clay bar to remove any leftover gunk, polished and a new coat of wax.

I hate Dealer Logo's..... thats the FIRST thing that came off my Z.

TheGreatOne 04-06-2011 04:38 PM

I peeled it off during my first wash, no need for heat

:iagree: Same here. I instruct them it can either come without a logo, or they can remove it. That's why I was glad the only thing they had was a license plate cover. That was trashed within 15 mins of getting off the lot.

Here ya go...The W of "World" has started to come off from the top. All the letters of "Jacksonville, FL." are individuals.

kenchan 04-06-2011 06:50 PM

Take ur time. Rushing is the biggest enemy. Do like 3 letters at a time, take a break.

They're just vinyls, so you're lucky; just follow Kenchan's advice.

That's easy. Lightly heat it with a hairdryer and use a razor blade to lift off the corners of decal. Just be sure to keep the blade flat. Go easy or you'll end up cutting the paint. You just want to catch enough of it so you pull the rest off with your fingernails. Vinyl comes off pretty easy once you get it started.

b1adesofcha0s 04-06-2011 08:41 PM

I had one that was an actual emblem on my car when I bought it. Dealership's name was Kelly Nissan, but the emblem just said Kelly with some fancy lettering. I kept getting people asking me if that was my girlfriend's name

Anyways, when I went to the body shop to get my spoiler installed, I asked the guy to remove it for me. He looked at it for a second and then just straight pulled it off. It came of cleanly, no problems whatsoever.

A hairdryer, fingernails and about 10 minutes and all the letters were off. A little Snap-On Polish-1 and the residue was gone with nary a trace of the offending logo...

Thanks for all your suggestions...

Footloose301 04-10-2011 08:22 PM

I made them remove it before I signed papers.

I would have too, but it was snowing, there was a 150 mile drive home, and my dad was getting tired of waiting.

Dealer had to remove it before I would accept delivery and hand over my check to him. I didn't want to screw up the paint. Also, no dealer advertisement plate or plate frame front or back. Deal breakers for me.

That would be depending on the sticker type. ;)

samb03 04-11-2011 02:26 AM

when working at Thornhill Nissan in Fort Worth. The guy that was training me used fishing line at a wire saw to cut the foam backing and then goo gone to remove the adhesive.

Vegitto-kun 04-11-2011 05:03 AM

there were no dealership decals on my car when I bought it.

we brought the Z and GT-R in for maintenance.

BAM STICKERED.

USINC97 04-11-2011 05:51 AM

We have purchased 3 cars from the same dealer. Never had an issue with stickers, he does not use them. Northshore Auto Group in Highland Park IL. Class operation.
