now I am a typical American ..... Car payments baby!!!! :)

I totally agree that being debt free is the way to go... I suppose american financial issues today has more to do with people spending beyond their means rather than people hoarding cash..

However its hard to beat 4% pa interest on aussie dollar term deposits, esp when the currency ought to remain bouyant looking at increased demand for minerals and other commodity products dug up and exported from downunder to developing countries like china and india.

Just my 0.02

Edit... Dow took another dump today and crude slid another couple percentage points... I think i just got poorer... Consolation is that usd appreciated against singdollar.

Sorry, I disagree with that. Paying cash is the safest way to go. Unless you have an insured account that can beat the interest rate of the borrowed money. Even then, things can happen; i.e. layoff, family crisis, etc. that suddenly requires a commitment of your cash.

I know that may seem counter-intuitive for many, but after 30 years out of college and being debt free for the past ten years, I can attest to the idea of "living within your means". A lesson sorely lost in our society today.

That's not to pass judgement on how anyone leads their lives, and I truly acknowledge that you have every right to do what you want within reason, but I'm a CPA with an MBA and I can attest to the notion that "sh1t happens", and you never know when.

That little sermon will do nothing but to piss a lot of people off, so sorry.

Lecture over!

That being said, I've got cash burning a hole in my bank account waiting to be exchanged for a new Z. I'll know by this weekend whether the search may extend into the Spring after bonus time.

Wish me luck.

I'm sorry, I could look this up myself, but is $70K AUS comparable to $70K USD? If so, do you feel like you got your full $70K worth of car? The Z is a seriously nice car, but I am curious how you feel about it at that price-point having owned it a while.

Car market is very different there. I think the Z06 was introduced at about 240k.

I have others, this one is just my favorite. You need to donate $5 to ALS of MI or something like that.

I make several thousand a year off interest from multiple HYCA's that are very similar to this particular one. I like to borrow money at low to no interest, and fund these accounts. While high yield SAVINGS accounts have basically vanished since the credit crunch, there are still plenty of high yield checking accounts around. They just require a little more work.

So do I own my Z? No, I guess not. I'd rather have a check for $125 each month. $37,500 x 4% = $1,500/yr. Divide that by 12. Then send me my check please. You can keep the car title...for now.

MPowerKai 08-21-2011 12:00 PM

I paid my Z off in full, I'm 26.

imokjack 08-21-2011 03:42 PM

Paid cash! Nothing better than being debt free.

ephan 08-21-2011 09:49 PM

Well I like to be in debt on purpose to boost the American economy, I can pay it off in full if i really wanted to, ( not really :shakes head: )

USMCHAT 08-28-2011 07:46 PM

Cash in full. Should have seen the smile on the dealers face. Almost as big as MINE!

L33T Z34 10-12-2012 11:50 AM

Finally paid mine off on 21 SEP 12.

MarkGideon 10-12-2012 11:59 AM

NMAC "owns" most of my Z. However, with 0% financing, using their money was the smartest choice for me. 58 payments to go, and I have no intention of paying it off early.

Dallaz 10-12-2012 01:50 PM

Paid Cash 32.5k OTD in May last year I think it was, financed the $1,400 warranty though lol. $75 a month, wasn't going to get it but he brought it down from 2k+ so I said what the heck, good for piece of mind at $75/month if I don't mod it like crazy and void it. Paying $300/month for insurance and the warranty for 2 more payments then just the $240 for insurance monthly so still stuck w/ payments till you die like it or not haha

Title is in my hand though, which is what mattered to me

muzik212 10-12-2012 01:59 PM

Paid cash for it and jumped into all my mods after a windfall from an investment. Felt great to go in with the lump sum and walk with the title. First time I was able to do that.

I had a low intrest loan from USAA.

Ubetit 10-12-2012 03:25 PM

Went to the dealer with a check, but was offered 0.9% financing on a used car. Put the check back in my pocket. It cost me $8.79 a month to use someone else's money.

obito 10-12-2012 05:57 PM

22 and paid cash :D

Tazicon 10-12-2012 06:31 PM

SolidRed370Z 10-13-2012 12:04 AM

I wanna know how yall saved up that much money at such a young age. Im 21 and I'm financing the hell out of my Z. I will try and refinance when i can to get a lower interest rate for the car and hopefully get lower payments so I can pay extra. Any advice?

Bodytechz 10-13-2012 09:45 AM

I bought mine new on March 26, 2011, paid cash, it was my retirement gift to myself. I'm 55

Perhaps many, many dime bag sales?

lachap55 10-13-2012 04:33 PM

3/4

Paid 30,000 cash(8/22/10) and financed 13,000...paid off as of 10/12. 57 years old have had a few cars, first brand spanking new car. Wish i would have waited for the bugs to be worked out;oil temperature, sterring wheel lock, paint, still love the car, best bang for the bucks. In the past have kept cars for 10yrs or more, i hope this one's works out like my other cars.

Hahaha. I guess I need to find a better job, or a second job lol. I mean I get how the older guys paid cash (save over time), but I just dont see how you can be 22 and pay off a Z in cash. Unless you got it for a steal but I bought mine brand new and had to finance.

You'll be fine mate, just take care if it, regular maintenance and you'll be fine.

w0rM 10-13-2012 05:14 PM

Geez... so many cash purchases. I got mine new in May. Paid $34k, financed $24k, owe $22k.

In my defense, I bought a house 2 weeks before I bought the Z. That's where most of my money went.
