Now do it on a dyno dynamics or mustang dyno where there's actual load on the dyno.. |
Thanks everyone for the responses, i think that the Z will suit me just fine for now. I'll be limited to slight bolt ons in the beginning because i'll be out of work for 6 months while attending the police academy. But after that id love to make a mini GTR (minus the AWD and electronics of course) and twin turbo the Z, that would give me the power im looking for.
Im the kind of person who loves the visceral emotion you can get from a car, the exhaust, driving stick, feeling the car as it progresses around corners and over bumps. So i really feel that with the interior being such a nice place to be, and the overall driving dynamics from the Z itself, i wont miss the STi. Then again the STi was my first "performance" car...might be kind of first love kinda thing...and you know nothings better than your first love lol. |
STI is definitely a performance car, but a different breed. 370Z's are more raw. STI seems more contained and better behaved (smoother). well, that's how i felt. :)

Also i'll have to get used to the gearing lol, my sti went something like this
1-32 2-58 3-83 4-98 5-125 I read that the gearing for the Z is something like 1-45 2-67 3-98 4-1XX 5-155 lol coming from an STi those are some long *** gears haha |

Yeah, the Z is really a different animal. It's geared more as a cruiser than a sports car to be honest. The gears are at least a little shorter than the 350, but it would have been nice to at least have an option for shorter gears. I'm hoping to eventually swap some 4.08's in to help things out a bit. The WRX I have is geared much taller than the STI's are, and it still feels much better than the Z does at low RPM's. The tall gearing is nice when you're cruising though, and even though the Z isn't exactly a torque monster, it will pull through despite the tall gears. |

anyway, im done talking subaru's. :D |

It's going to feel a lot slower to you though. The power delivery is much smoother than the STi. You won't get that neck snapping acceleration. The Z is still quick, it just doesn't feel that quick.
|
The bottom line is that coming from a boosted car myself, when I test drove the Z and the rep said to cut it loose... I was left a bit dissapointed AT FIRST because of the obvious lack of that boost but with the right mods it can feel pretty quick. Plus you'll be stepping into a car that is more refined and you won't always feel as if you're heading to the prom as my wife always told me about my Evo. ;)
