Uneven Exhaust - 2011 Base Model

Hi,

I've had my Z for about a week now. This weekend I noticed the exhaust pipes don't stick out evenly at the rear bumper. A trip to the local dealer confirmed that all 2011s on the lot had this issue, but 2010s did not. I don't know how to post pics but basically the passenger side exhaust doesn't stick out as much as the driver side.

Is this something Nissan will fix under warranty?

kenchan 04-04-2011 02:05 PM

How different? Like 10mm or 0.001mm?

Didn't drive the Z to work today, but maybe ~.25-.5" (or 6-12mm)

See if the exhaust tip can be adjusted. Mine is 09 and fixed ..but even length.

Have any pics?

Maybe its time for a new exhaust?

christian370z 04-04-2011 03:19 PM

I remember seeing this on all the Zs I saw in the dealership when I bought mine, my stock exhaust was also uneven and I could not get it even no matter what I tried.

Red__Zed 04-04-2011 03:26 PM

Hm. Seems odd. All of them were like that?

11Thumper 04-04-2011 04:32 PM

All the 2011 Zs I looked at had the same issue. There were a couple 2010s on the lot and none of them had the issue.

Maybe the rear bumper isn't molded correctly and gives the appearance that the exhaust is not straight.

JGreenwood07 04-04-2011 04:48 PM

Really funny this was posted, as just this weekend I noticed the same issue on my '10. The left exhaust tip seems to stick out ever so slightly on mine.

+1

Mine was the same way. Even after I installed my Greddy exhaust. I checked it out and could see a reason why this was so. Unless it has something to do with the EVAP on the passenger side.

just rub it a lil

We must have a pictorial representation to verify your claims!

Nissans factory attempt at getting rid of that evil "rasp"

ProfessorDave 04-04-2011 07:28 PM

Let me get this straight (oops, sorry! Bad joke). The tips are uneven in terms of how far they project from the valance, but not in terms of height? I'm trying to figure out how this could be. I could see how hanging high on one side could lead to what you describe, but you'd see it from the back, not just from above.

Have you jacked it up on stands and crawled under to see if a hanger is jammed?

Oh and :p. Kenchan has bunnies in his avatar :icon17:

Professordave- thanks for noticing. :D

The passenger side sits a little higher when looking straight on (as well as being pushed in farther when looking from the top). This picture doesn't represent well, but you can see it.

Humm, yeah I see what you are talking about in your second pic and 3rd pic.

Najnahto 04-04-2011 10:48 PM

Same here. I have a 2011 and my exhaust is also uneven. Driver side tip sticks out further than the passenger side tip. I've had the car up on a lift and tried everything to try and even them out but nothing worked. I thought it was just mine.

Forrest 04-04-2011 10:51 PM

My 05 350z had uneven exhausts big time. I think my 09 370z barely has it. I never would have noticed in either cases but my eagle eye brother was quick to point it out.

I don't even care.

EazyD 04-04-2011 10:56 PM

o_O

I'm part of the eagle eye gang unfortunately. It bugs me...no reason why it should be uneven. Not sure the dealer will even try to fix though.

christian370z 04-05-2011 02:15 PM

This is the closest I ever could get the exhaust to being level. I even had an exhaust shop try to even it out and that was all that could be done:

Masa 04-05-2011 02:18 PM

Same "problem" on my 11'. The tips stick out evenly from the bumper but if you look at it from behind, the driver side is a little lower than passenger side.

kenchan 04-05-2011 02:22 PM

huh, that's werd.

do a WTB in the for-sale section for 2009-2010 stock muffler. im sure there are people who wants to sell (or maybe even give away) theirs.

SPOHN 04-05-2011 02:47 PM
