Question for all the 370z Owners

when you drive your car and come to a stop sign or a red light on a bumpy or uneven road does your cars steering wheel pull to one side. Doesnt matter which side it is but mine usually pulls to the left about 5-6 inches.

i wanna know how many people have experienced this.

Since we both reside in California I can say that a highway that have been modified whereby additional lanes have been added, and the concrete road bed has been strafed with rain grooves provides an interesting joyride as the 370Z will follow the old road course, but this is standard for such a tire/rim setup as ours. The distinctive pulling to one side at a stop is not.

Have you checked your tire pressures, and alignment?

You will need to check all four. :)

I've noticed this too...it's rather dramatic when it happens. However, I've only noticed it when stopping on a road with rather prominent tire groves. My alignment and tire pressures are spot-on, so it's definitely a road-tire interaction under certain circumstances.

Proper tire pressure should be on all 4 ????

If the road is grooved from heavy travel it is possible for the steering to follow the terrain. Some refer to this is trammeling. Bigger tires increase this along with improper air pressures. Coming to a stop the tire will try to follow the topography of whatever it is against/resting on.

+1

Mine does this also, is normal on grooved and worn roads. Normal smooth surface, no pull.

How is the steering/handling it self with the "rain grooves"?

Are you saying, having offset size tires cause that?

Meld both alan93rsa and my posts together and we are both aiming for the same explanation. The rain grooves will pull your tires in a direction. I meet up with this at the 91 and 57 crossroads where the Z simply started changing lanes as it was following old lane grooves after Caltrans had changed the road. Weird feeling to say the least. If you ride a motorcycle it can be even worse.

I had a 1990 Sentra. Freeway rain grooves, the front end would catch and twitch. It was like the seam of the tire, was riding in the rain groove. It was nerve wrecking sometimes.

I agree..When traveling on a section of I 75 that was recently repaved, the Z tracks like its on rails, but when I get to local roads that have been heavily traveled with trucking and the like, the wide tires have a knack of wanting to go in and out of the grooves. Again the tail tell indication seem to be a freshly paved area. Here in FL the heat and sun does and excellent job of melting roads...

64 dollar question- Does every one have the stock tires?

I have the stock tires that came with the sports package.

ChrisSlicks 04-12-2009 06:10 PM

Tramlining is worse with wider tires so I would expect those with the sports package to get it worse. I widened my fronts to 275 so the tramlining got a little worse.
