Ouch, thats a reckless driving charge!!!!! Deff get a lawyer, you need to get that 30 or under. Where on the Island did you get nailed??? Was it a Suffolk cop??

Just be glad you arent in GA and dont have SuperSpeeder attached to that.

Good luck with your case.

Oh and not to add insult to injury, if you do end up getting around 6 points on you lincense you will also be charged $300 DMV surcharge. I got a 85 in a 55 about three years ago. The fine was about $200 then I got 6pts and had to pay $100 for the next three years.

Red, its not reckless driving if he didn't get a summons for wreckless driving. He'd almost be better off because he'd end up in criminal court where they def would plea it down.

Sounds like he's got a regular speeding ticket and will me in hauppauge (district court) in which case he's basically f'ed. Take it from one who knows. they really don't plea down at all there.

Ps. I only have 2 PTs. ( I used to be a dumb ***, not anymore )

OP check in.

However, the only way to win your contest is either the Cop doesnt show up to the court OR the cop dont bring the evidence (ex. radar, speed-o-meter of your record, etc)

Well good luck to you and hopefully you dont lose your licence

In NY, the officer issuing the ticket ISN'T required to be present in court at the time of your scheduled hearing should you decide to fight the ticket. If you do fight the ticket in person, your fine is likely to be reduced. With the right lawyer, you might fare a lot better. Check out Casey Raskob. Good luck :tiphat:

Drag the ticket out for a year or two. Make a court date then reschedule for "that business meeting out of town". Do this enough times, and your first ticket may not still count against you. My buddy did this for two years until the court dropped his multi count ticket entirely.

Mt Tam, you can only reschedule once to my knowledge in NY.

You are dead on right red6spd, you'll get a $300 DMV surcharge for excessive speed and be required to sign a letter stating that you won't be speeding ever again in the state.

I'm not sure??? 31 or over I'm pretty sure its a mandatory that you go to court, but I guess its not reckless drving if the cop did not make it that.

Here in GA we have what's called nolo. You can only use it once every five years. Your still saying your quilty and the fine is the same. But no points on your licence. Basically your saying you screwed up once in five years so they give you a break. And you still can have them drop the speed on top of that. That made it not go on my record also. I did this two years ago with no lawyer needed.

I got caught doing 86 in a 55. The DA dropped it to 9 over as long as I paid the fine the same day.

Look on the ticket and see if you can find out what type of device he was using. (radar or laser). We have both at work, I work for the Department of Transportation, and the radar has a huge angle of vision which makes it difficult to identify which car is speeding, which means if your in a pack of cars your less likely to get a ticket. The laser on the other hand is way more accurate, you point it at a car and shoot.

Most officers will show up for court, they get paid overtime to do so, at least the departments around here do.
