Damn rock cracked my windshield!

Driving the Highway & a flying object is coming right at me, unable to swerve I hear a bang on my windshield! ...at 90-100km, it sounded loud.

I look at my lower passenger side of the windshield, there's a chip & cracking line:mad:

Only way to look at this, glass damage or body damage which is worse:shakes head:

Ouch! :(

The cracking line sounds like it might get worse, I hope it does not. The passenger side is better than your side though.

Insurance covers glass repair?

Econ 03-24-2011 12:07 PM

just remove the windshield and wear a helmet.

doubleG370Z 03-24-2011 12:08 PM

yes, comprehensive...thought it was a $300 deductible instead it's $200.

Some insurance companies cover glass repair (not replacement) at 100%

Cmike2780 03-24-2011 12:15 PM

I have Allstate. Some insurance don't have a deductable for glass. Check your policy. I've had my windshield replaced in my old car without paying anything out of pocket.

I had a rock hit my windshield in my Z 2 weeks ago. The rock was about the size of a quarter and it hit my windshield going 70mph. I felt your same pain. I had the crack fixed next day. My insurance, esurance, covered it free of charge because it was a repair. I think most insurance companies do the repair for free as others stated. Anyways, after the repair was done I have a dot where the rock hit. It's not all that noticeable but it pisses me off a little.

It also can depend on your state. For instance in Florida Insurance companies HAVE to cover both windshield repair and replacement for free with no deductible. If the crack is small enough and not in your immediate eye line, they will repair it, else replace.

We refer to our XTerra is the "Rock Magnet". We have had 4 windshields (including the original) in 3.5 years. The first replacement was within a month of purchase. Fortunately, our glass deductible is $50.

Same thing happen to me =( Your insurance can cover it BUT its a pain in the *** so I just replaced my windshield out of my own pocket. Cost me 225. Not bad huh?

flashburn 03-24-2011 12:56 PM

Wasn't a pain for me to get it fixed on my old car a few years ago. I called up my insurance company then (Esurance) after about a 5 minute conversation I had a repair guy scheduled to come to my apartment the following day, and it took about 30 minutes to replace. Was quick and easy for me.

doubleG370Z 03-24-2011 01:11 PM

unfortunately the crack is too large to repair(where they inject stuff into crack) so they have to replace the entire windshield, glass shop said 3 hrs!!!
