I came FROM a G35C and into a Z. G's are great cars. But looks-wise, no one will give it a 2nd look, unlike the Z. The G is "sporty", but not a sports car. The Z is a sports car. In addition, I have a kid as well... The Z is for me mostly, and for the wife and I going out on Friday nights when the sitter is watching our kid. But we also have 2 other cars, an Odyssey for her daily and family trips, and a Civic for my daily driver. Civic is 10 years old... I use that for winters or if it's raining or if I know parking will be bad.

Keep the Z, and fork out 1 to 2k for a crappy daily driver that you could care less what happens to it.

Get a 911

If you need a back seat get a pre -owned Porsche 911

LOL... yeah if I could have it in a perfect world, I'd want to have BOTH cars. My G35C was a 2003 with only 13k miles, in immaculate condition. I would have wanted to keep that as my daily and the Z for my toy car... oh well :( If I had to choose 1 only though, would have to be the Z.

cool. mine's a 2004... actually a MY04.5 one of the last production lots with the Brembo's. im the original owner. car still looks brand new and has about 27k miles. :)

the Z is by far a driver's car where as the G is a touring car. i donno, i get so much respect with the G i just like the space people give me while motoring around town.

where as in my dd Fit, benz, bimmer, rover, escalade douches just plows into my face or up my arse and tells me wtf are you looking at poor folk? kinda face. :icon14:

That is actually a VERY good analogy. Never thought of it that way, but I agree with you 100%.

Sorry OP, didn't mean to get off topic, but in the end it's up to you. My recommendation, keep the Z, then get a cheap DD.

ProfessorDave 03-21-2011 08:29 PM

I'm in the keep-the-Z-get-a-DD-option camp.

If you need the back seat, get an M3.

I am planning on keeping the car. The problems I ran into were winter and going places with the kids. I'll work this out with my wife and keep the car. Maybe ad a daily driver later. I traded in a Pathfinder so this was a big change. I also sold my Rx7 (86).

This is what I like about this forum. I ask for advice and I get it and it is good advice. What you say makes perfect sense. I have always had sports cars and regretted everyone I sold for a non-sports car. The dd is the right way to go. Thanks again.

Great advice. What dollar range could I expect to pay for a used M3, say 2006-2008?

kenchan 03-22-2011 01:28 PM

apparently inspector likes posting to himself ... :icon14:

Well 2006 is the E46 M3 (last gen) and you can get it in the high $20k to low $30k range.

The 2008 is the E92 M3 (current gen) and they lowest you can find one for is in the low $40k range.

I don't think he's learned to use the quote function.

Inspector: If you click the little quote button in the bottom right corner of a post, you can quote it in order to directly respond to that post.

Wrong, I don't know this function. I'm not a techy person. Each to his own
