this car is great in the snow with the proper tires. I slapped a set of blizzak LM60s on and have driven several days in snow covered roads here in KC. This thing gets around like a tank with the right shoes.

The only time I couldn't drive the car this winter is when we got a foot of snow a couple weeks ago.. ground clearance is a problem obviously. But anything up to 3-4 inches is a breeze. I would rather be driving this car with snow tires in those conditions than a front wheel drive car with all seasons. It's that good.

Nope, silly!
I love driving in the rain, the grip of the road feels awesome! :stirthepot:

Ha! Just kiddin', Crown-man! IF you promise not to make fun of me, I'll confess...I've NEVER seen snow...Only in the movies!

As you probably know, you can buy Blizzaks for the 19" sport wheels. Have them on my car in NE and the Z is pretty darn good in snow lower than the clearance of the car.

Pharmacist 01-24-2010 02:49 PM

for anyone still wondering, the base model 18 inch rims do fit the sport package brakes, with room to spare. that's what i have on my car.

NewlyIMPORTed 01-24-2010 03:43 PM

i drove in the snow a few weeks ago and im in Georgia there was snow everywhere and the roads were very icy i drove fine but i did hit this ice patch that slid my car about 10 feet

caneman88 01-24-2010 05:56 PM

No snow in San Antonio it's scary driving in the rain could not imagine driving in snow. It usually sits in the garage till the rain goes away

SophiaZ 01-24-2010 06:34 PM

I have no problem in the rain, but I won't even attempt to drive the Z in snow. I was pulling out of work one day in my 350 and was at an intersection making a left hand turn and the road was so icy, all I did was touch the gas and I did a full 360. Thank god it was 300am and noone was around! I don't mess with that type of weather anymore...not worth it

Yeap, I had enough close calls with my 350, so I know that I'm not even going to try anything close with the my 370.

antman22 01-24-2010 09:28 PM

We had some snow/ice over christmas here in dallas...the 370z did not enjoy the ice one bit. even going slow (5mph), i'd see the VDC light flicker as i tried to take a turn. im sure the tires were frozen hockey pucks and my only saving grace was that the roads weren't completely frozen.

next time there's ice, im staying home.

ChrisSlicks 01-25-2010 09:02 AM

Yeah, they call them Summer tires for a reason. Granted snow in Dallas is pretty rare, but up here in the NE if you want to get around in the winter you get snow tires. Unfortunately only about 10% of the population up here has figured this out, so you still get a crazy number of accidents when it snows. 4WD doesn't mean squat without the right tires.

dawankler 01-25-2010 09:21 AM

I've taken mine out a couple of times with 1-2" on the road (even drove it through hilly Western MD while the snow was coming down) without any problems on stock summer tires. If you have the MT, just remember to start it in 2nd and take it very easy off the line and around corners and you'll be fine. I wouldn't recommend long trips through it, but it CAN be done.

Rather than by wheels+winter tires, I think I AM going to break down and pick up a $1000 beater from Craigslist or something for the bad days.

gemini09m3 01-25-2010 11:33 AM

Its all about the shoes. I had a E46 BMW M3 and in the winter I changed to winter tires and the car performed great in snow. On my E90 M3 I put on the Continental DWS tires they have performed great in the winter so far in the North East. If you get a winter tire set up you will have no problems only if you have a limited slip differential. My neighbors always look at me in shock when it snows and I take out my car and drive it. Summer tires are only for summer do not let anyone fool you that its ok to drive a car with those tires in low temps and snow all you are asking for is trouble.

370zproject 01-26-2010 12:08 AM

thank you gave me the excuse not to go into work if it snows ahha! my corolla did fine in the snow ... guess its the tires ?

You guys driving this car in snow are nuts. I think if you have money for a 40k car you would want to protect your investment a little and buy a cheap winter beater instead of not only risking being in an accident but also receiving many dents and dings from salt and misc crap from driving in the snow.

You know... there are cheap jeeps for like 2-3k. I drive a 2001 jeep cherokee in the winter months and wouldn't dream of taking the black Z out in this crap!

Zxces50 01-26-2010 08:07 PM

I kept my 4x4 truck for snow & rain- Park the Z it does not go in the snow

Two tips --

1. Always remember to keep your right mirror clean!

2. A high-visibility color like BRILLIANT WHITE can help others see and avoid you!

(After the Dec. 20th storm hit the Jersey coast, my Z stayed parked until everything melted off it. That took about two weeks. The Honda Element AWD I bought last summer, visible in the foreground, was on its way to Cape Cod as soon as the storm blew away, and was an absolute delight on the road.

>135I 01-27-2010 07:23 AM

Yes I drove my Z in the snow, I was able to handle it ok no problms with skidding or anything but forward movment was the problem. If you don't have snow tires plan on an extended drivng time and tracton control is your friend.

This may be the funniest post I've seen on the internet. The 370z is more than capable in the snow. Get some decent snows, turn traction control off and go have fun guys. I daily my 2wd truck that has 20" wheels on it and we get arguably more snow than the rest of the country in Western NY (See: Lake effect). Hell, back when one of my friends owned my z33 (and it had twin turbos) we took it ice racing a few times out on frozen lakes.

HAHA thats so much fun and I agree with you once you got the right tires on you can have a blast in the winter!!!!!

valinr 11-25-2010 05:40 PM

I had a 350z with Sport Package , Brembos, 18" Rays and traded it in for a new 370 with the sport package and larger brakes, 19" Rays. I had bought a snow tire package for my 350 a few years back with nice blizacks on 18" rims specifically for the 350 with brembos. Has anyone attempted or knows if these will fit my 370? Living in S/W Ontario winter is all around and I need to do something soon. I have another vehicle but I still like to drive the 370 once and a while in the winter. The 350 with the correct winter tires and good driving skills was no problem in the snow. I'm sure the 370 not much different as long as the snow is not to deep.

EazyD 11-27-2010 11:34 AM

What's the price tag on a set of 18" Blizzaks and rims? How about just 19" blizzak tires?

marcussoori 11-27-2010 12:20 PM

19" Blizzaks were around $700 for me last year, but they were on clearance at Tire Rack...The tread lasts long, and you can get at least two 4-6 month seasons out of them (possibly three)...

Z2nv 11-27-2010 09:19 PM

Ive been driving in weather around -25 degrees for about 3 weeks now.. only problem i have is the front bumper taking a beating from snow/ice chucks that tend to fall off car when driving behind them. Im running a 18" cheap tuner wheel with the sport package.. it fits without any spacers. the rims where 112$ a wheel and i put on hankook winter ipike w409 and had them studded. I have no issues starting/stoping/turning. I wouldnt sugggest driving in any snow without the proper tires. my whole winter rim/tire setup cost my 1267.00 all in, so it wasnt to bad.

370zproject 11-27-2010 09:24 PM

Did you recently just buy your Z, as in within the last few months? I see you joined in Sept. Got any pics of your car?

As for driving the 370z in the winter. It can be done but like others have said, winter tires are a must. We had unexpected snow come down, about 1-2cm last year and i still had my summer tires on. Got stuck 3 times on the base, was able to get myself out 2 times but had to get some people to push me the 3rd. Got winter tires on and the car handled amazing. Handled even better with the VDC off. That thing got me in more trouble on then it did off. Taking turns and having your *** end somewhat slide out wasnt a problem with me, i knew how to handle the that. But when u do that and the VDC comes on, that screwed me up. I ended up pulling the harness out and leaving the VDC off the whole winter and never had any issues.

:iagree: What he said!

I drove it in snow last year but I'm parking it for this winter.
For one, I even drove during the east coast snow storm last year *though it was not as bad as states up here in Canada*. I figured I probably spent more on Car wash then how much I would have spent on a good winter beater LOL.

Yup, me and spear use our Z in the snow during winter. It's not bad. With a proper setup, you CAN drive RWD in snow

Thanks for all the replies. It sounds like winter tires will be my best option. Hopefully the snow has left for the season with last nights storm. That will give me the summer to find rims and snow tires. The concensus seems to be that summer tires are an absolute no go, all-seasons are marginal and snow tires make it a reasonable experience.

If anyone knows of cheaper rims that fit over the sport brakes, please let me know. Snow tires for the 19"s are tough to come by, and I don't know if 18" will make it over the sport brakes. Still waiting for someone to take a 370Z to tirerack to measure...

It doesn't snow often here in Seattle (ask a native and he will say it NEVER snows....congenital snownesia). But it is cold and wet most of the year. My first "mod" was to replace the stock summer tires with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus tires. It did set me back $1,500, but now the car sticks to wet roads as well as it does to dry ones. I did not take the car out during our recent storm (and the days after it took to melt). People that have driven in light snow (under 4") claim the Pilot's are great. Don't confuse the Pilot Sport A/S with the other pilot tires. It is a totally different breed.

Jessobear 12-01-2010 04:55 PM

I took my car on Thanksgiving from DC up to southern PA. Stayed there for two days and on the way home on Saturday, it went below freezing and started to snow up in the "mountains" where I was. Had to drive about a mile down a dirt road that was covered with snow and I thought the car did amazingly well. No sliding or anything. Once out on the highway, there was some snow on the road and the temp was 25F and I really didn't have any issues with the car. That actually really amazed me. I expected the tires to turn to rocks and not grip at all at that temperature. Temp warmed up as we came down in altitude and went above freezing, but I still was impressed with how well the tires worked at temps in the 30's.

Where you live the state/counties/cities know how to manage snow. Here in the Seattle area, the idiots (county and city authorities) wait until enough snow has fallen (a full day generally) to turn to black ice. Most areas won't use salt. They are afraid of changing the salinity of the Pacific ocean. Most of our roads have raised dots in addtion to painted lines, so a plow leaves at least two inches of snow/ice. As a result, the roads are virtually undrivable until the snow melts. Fortunately, this happens after a few days and it doesn't snow all that often.

I'm from New York and am very used to driving in snow. But here it isn't snow, it's ice. Couple all of this with the fact that people here do not have a clue about winter driving. Oh yes, one more thing, the area is riddled with steep hills.

I have all-weather tires. They do just fine in wet and light snow. The OEM tires (which I replaced after 1,000 miles) are not very sticky on wet roads...and our roads are wet a lot.

I just placed 2 sixty pound bags of sand in the back hatch area.... anyone think this may upset the handling or two much weight on the back cover ? Residing in Ohio the snows can be brutal and since this is my daily driver I am attempting to do all that I can to make it :tiphat:to and from destinations. I also replaced factory tires for Dunlop WinterSport 3D in rear and Dunlop graspic DS3 in front...

I don't see why you should have problem. It's like carrying an extra person (120 lbs). You may lose a MPG or two but you'll have much better rear traction since 370Z rear is so light. Good luck
