Anyone go from camaro to z
Anyone trade in a v6 camaro for a z or vice versa or even test drive a v6 camaro how's it compare, especially engine speed wise
|
Hahaha... no comparison. I rented the v6 camaro. For what you would pay in a Z I would just make the SS an option. The V6 camaro feels heavy wide and clumsy. The extra power in the SS makes a huge difference but still. The Z is precise and fast. The camaro(SS only) is brute fast. There's no comparison. You would have to figure out what you want to live with. 4 seat muscle or 2 seat precision.
The 2012 camaro v6 is getting a new engine and a bump and coming this summer. I also heard the FE4 susp will be an option due to the fe3 sucking. If this is so and camaro sheds a few lbs in the refresh???? Maybe the v6 might be worth the look??? But 2010/2011 in v6 form. HELL TO THE NO! What do you mean by engine speed? The chevy revs at lower rpms and does the quarter in over 14 seconds. About 1.3 seconds slower than a Z. |
My co-worker almost bought an SS until he test drove my Z. He's looking for a GTR now.. LoL!
|
I drove an SS right before I test drove the Z, I loved the looks and the power was stunning....the bad, Its so cheap looking inside. All of the plastic seemed as it was the stuff outa milk cartons or something, just not refined. I didnt like those cluster guages and I hated the radio setup, couldnt put your own stuff in really. The power was great but I was turned off when I got inside. Thats what made me even think of the Z in the first place. Damn women however hassled my back about me not buying it till I give her the ring so im stuck. I still come on here and read comments though and see the amazing pics:)

Never touched a V6 Camaro but we own a 2010 SS 6-speed. As Unknown_370 put it the Camaro is brute power while the Z is precision. I honestly love both cars but the Z is more my style while the Camaro is more my girls style (it's my girlfriends car). Honestly, lately I've been having the itch for a V8 or at least something more powerful than the Z. The 332hp is very outdated for today's 30-40k price group. Even my Nismo with exhaust upgrade (roughly 360hp at the crank) feels gutless compared to the LS3 in the Camaro. The downfall of the Camaro is the weight. Despite the fact that it can take a corner decently you can feel every pound of the car fighting you. I haven't driven the new 5.0 stang yet but based off what I've been reading if you want the precision of the Z and brute power it's the way to go. The new stang is equal to the Z in the corners and faster than the Camaro in a straight line. As already mentioned, forget the V6.

Its like futbol and amercan football. Brute force/raw powah (america) vs finesse/precision (futbol)
Amrrican muscle vs japanese precision. If I was getting plastic surgery I would rather have a scalpel cut my face instead of a machete |

I'd rather look for a 240sx or RX7.
And rebuild it. Or I'd get a Mustang GT lowest trim. Also, and old sti is nice. My friend has a 04 sti stage 2. That thing hauls *** and def. beats the Z. |
Thanks for th input so far. just got back from a morning cruise ripping some gears and theres no way i could trade in my baby of two years. BUT I was exploring the idea of an SS or a V6. This car just makes me want to mod so much and being a student doesnt allow it LOL. The SS HAULS STOCK. Yea, the v6 is prob a dog and id be killing myself. But id also like a car easier for my dad to get into (personal health) and the camaro sems higher so he could get into it and we could rip some gears and enjoy ourselves
|
The Camaro is not much faster than our 370z's in a straight.
It's definetly a driver's race. I've beaten all the maro's I've raced and I was stock 6speed. Camaro only has that v8, handling is horrible and is not as agile as the Z is. Modding wise and gas wise you are better off with the 370z. Also, if you are thinking of a v6 look at the mustang v6 because its much faster and better than a v6 camaro. |

For some reason people cant or dont want to understand the fact that a SS is not much faster then the Z considering the 90 or so HP difference and the million LB's or TQ difference. And lets not forget the Z was not made to be a stop light warrior where the Camaro was, so I'm getting a little tired hearing about how the Z is underpowered and how it should have more HP for the price. I considered a Camaro for maybe 5 minutes before buying my Z. The thing is huge!! Ugly and just cheap looking with its vake vents and louvers. Ever look at the back of one? you can see the ugly mufflers and crap, it looks like they forgot to finish it. Oh and the condensation in the reverse lights where a little bit of a turn off. Just to add a little bit more insult to injury, did you guys know the new SS Convert weights 4100 pounds!!!!!!!! |

2. The camaro with a simple intake exhaust and tune that costs around $1400 total will net you quarter times in the 12.5 range and that doesn't include headers or other mods to the engine and tranny. The Z mod parts cost double for half the power and acceleration. 3. Looks are subjective. And who puts louvers and crap on cars anymore??? That's mulletastic. The Z is a superior handler but the 2 cars serve 2 different purposes. 4.4100 lb convertible... well there are only a handful of true performance convertibles. Most convertibles I consider them to be novelty cars anyway, not true sports cars in most cases. Either way you gotta give chevy credit cuz they only lost 1/10th of a second making the convert. Whenever I rent the camaro SS I get around 20mpg. I rent the auto. And I beat it up since its a rental. Lol. The camaro has its issues and its a hard sale for me as well but 2012 is sounding good woth hp bumps and I personally think the camaro is cool but I do love the Z over the camaro. As it stands today my money would still go to the Z. |
FWIW the Camaro SS is still pretty quick around the curves. Yeah it's heavy but it's got some grip and does pretty well. It was quicker than the Z by a few seconds at VIR in the Lightning Lap.
Ultimately it comes down to what you want out of a car. There's no right or wrong decision. Get what suits your needs and wants best and be happy! |

The V6 Camaro doesn't handle anything like the SS Camaro, the spring rates are entirely different. The V6 is setup with fairly soft springs but a moderate damping rate, it makes a comfortable, practical and affordable highway cruiser but rolls pretty good when pressed hard around corners. Sure it doesn't have the brute power of the V8, but the 300hp from the V6 does move the thing along with ease and it does go pretty good when you wind up the RPM. The 6-AT has nice tall gearing and keeps the RPM's nice and low when you are just cruising. The downside of the Camaro is that you have a horrible sight-line out of the windshield, it feels like you are looking out of a narrow slit thanks to the long hood and low roof. But my wife has had hers for 1 year and 12K miles and still likes it. I even put snow tires on it and it does well in all conditions right up until you run out of ground clearance.

i'm no gear head so heres a couple of questions....
how do the drive trains compare.. meaning the z's 7AT to the camaro's AT. is it a 7 speed or what. and what about the z's 6mt with the sync.what does the camaro offer and the clutch in each. just wondering........ i do know the camaro is everywhere now, at our local dealership i swear they have 15 lined up next to each other. |

As far as I heard. The manual in the chevy is supposed to be top notch. Also built by tremec, I hear it shifts smooth and the clutch is not too heavy but not light. No car has SRM on the manual except the Z. Not even another nissan or infiniti. Nissan autos have DRM and is found in very few other brand trannies. I believe bimmer has drm in the 6at. Not sure about the rest of the car brands. |

I agree that the plastic buttons are cheesy and the transmission is a little slow to respond to the input. |
The camaro and Z are almost identical in straight line speed. I think the camaro it a couple tenths faster then the Z. if you do a power to weight ratio they are withing a couple hundreths of each other. Somewhere around .1 hp/lb if i remember correctly. I almost bought an SS Camaro but the Z is just a nicer car. The camaro feels faster because of all the low end torque. so it pushes u in the seat more at lower rpms. But the weight kills the car. Its all personal preferance. I liked the Z more so i bought it lol

I traded in a 2010 SS for my Z. The reason I traded it was because of all the problems I had. I had multiple electrical issues that the dealer could not resolve, and I actually blew both of the liquid motor mounts on two separate occasions. The car is HUGE. It's very difficult to park because you can't see out of it to place yourself as well. As for the motor, the LS3 was awesome and I do miss that. The handling of the car was decent but nowhere near that of the Z. As for straight line, I don't feel a big difference. I had intake mufflers and a tune on my camaro and the best I could get out of it was a 12.9. My Z has intake and exhaust and it ran a 13.4 so after it gets a tune and test pipes it will be pretty damn close. All in all, I do miss the camaro but Im very happy with my Z. Oh and the gas mileage is worlds better in the Z.
