From my experience, the panic button works farther away compared the lock/unlock button. If I walk like 50 feet away, the lock button stops working, but the panic button would still work.

I couldn't find my car in Disneyland's parking structure, and it helped me find my car :)

Ok, so as a location device, the panic button is a win. Or it's at least better than repeatedly clicking the "lock" button.

b1adesofcha0s 02-24-2011 03:07 PM

I never knew what the actual purpose if that button was.

Should I turn her on first before trying to insert the fob?

KaienZ34 02-24-2011 03:28 PM

No need just lick and stick.

370Z Purist 02-24-2011 04:37 PM

I thought the fact that everyone wants something horrible to happen to Shado was a given.

I was once walking to my car to see two high school kids touching the car and flipflopping it. I immediately thought, "pop out my knife" but instead I wanted to give them a run for their money so I hit panic. 20 people all look at my car, and those kids were bookin' it. I have never enjoyed a car alarm so much in my life, despite the sad reality that my car could have been stolen.

Otherwise, I've never used it, although I have hit the lock key to jump some admirers.

Purist, I must know what "flipflopping it" means. Then I can use it on my kids, showing them how cool I am, gettin' all street and stuff. They love it when I do that. They say they don't, but they do.

Great quote in your sig, by the way!

KaienZ34 02-24-2011 07:39 PM

Look shado you got one vote from someone that like the button. I bet it's racerX

dcrew1x 02-24-2011 07:48 PM

Although I would rather have a trunk release button, I still like the panic button. I've used it many times while trying to search for my car in a huge parking lot after long sessions of classes at my school. I can never park in the same spot since open parking spots are scarce, so it comes in handy

KaienZ34 02-24-2011 07:52 PM

See shado i told you that you needed to add a "i use it to find my car" option. They have at least two guys and my wife that use it for that.

Three if you add me to that list.

It's the general slang term for taking the car door and pulling on it, making the "flip-flop" sound. You'd be surprised, I once eyed down an entire line and found six cars unlocked. There were 21 cars in that line. It's rather disturbing, since it's not as affluent a neighborhood to be secure with not locking your car.

That should boost your street cred/rep/etc.

Yeah, my friend and I came up with that... I was meeting a new person and made that line but, as I quoted myself, I thought I would sound stupid. I did.

I disagree. Regardless of purpose, you either (a) like it and use it, (b) are ambivalent, or (c) dislike it. I'm actually glad that people are chiming in that they like using it for the purpose of locating their vehicle. I hadn't expected that.

I was expecting to hear more stories like the one about scaring the kids away from the car. That's, in theory, what the button is there for.

I'd rather not have it at all, or have it in such a way that it doesn't trigger accidentally so often.

KaienZ34 02-24-2011 10:57 PM

You just like to disagree.

I rarely use any of those buttons myself as I tend to just use the buttons on the doors and rear hatch.

Maybe i would use the panic button if I couldn't find my car in a large parking lot upon returning to the lot. But if that ever really happened I would more likely have to get my head examined and go purchase a skirt.
