And here's the x-rays. Pre- and post-op.

I'm thinking of getting an "Iron Man" tattoo on my tibia. Too much?

TreeSemdyZee 02-22-2011 05:44 PM

TSA is gonna LOVE you.

dad 02-22-2011 05:46 PM

That is amazing. Are you eating the hospital food, or is the wife bringing in Quarter pounder and fries?

EazyD 02-22-2011 05:51 PM

Thanks for sharing. I say go for the tattoo, even if it's tiny! Or better yet, get iron man headlight mod on your new nismo ;) glad you are out of surgery

simota1 02-22-2011 05:53 PM

Sundown 02-22-2011 05:57 PM

Actually, I'm at home right now. The accident was on Friday, first surgery on Friday night. Rod placement on Sunday night, started walking on it with a walker on Monday and discharged home today. :) It's all going well.

You might even have to weather a full patdown. :ugh2:

You know, in Time magazine, they said that in 2040, the SINGULARITY will occur, when man and machine fuse together.

I really doubt that for a lot of reasons but I'd be hijacking the thread then.

Hey man good to see you are doing well. Just like an RN to joke about an injury like that. Yes I'm a RN and EMT so know where you are coming from. You might want the tatoo onyour shin as nobody but the OR people will see one on your tibia. Sorry to hear about the others in the truck. Just remember it wasn't your fault. Stay strong and keep up the fight.

spearfish25 02-22-2011 06:26 PM

Glad you're patched up and home. Do they just leave the fibula to remodel without realigning and plating?

Sundown 02-22-2011 06:29 PM

Yeah, you got me on that one. The tat would be on the shin, not the bone, but you knew where I was talking about. Where the accident was is directly on my normal route to and from work every day, so we drove over it on the way home today. Unbelievable the skid marks from the truck. He managed to leave skid marks 2 lanes of north-bound traffic, and a turning land before he hit me. The fire destroyed part of the black-top road, too. I just hope I don't end up with jacked up dreams now.

Wow... scary stuff. You're a tuff guy! Hang in there!!!

I grew up in Orange and graduated from WO-S in 90. Shoot me a PM if you think we might know each other.

The orthopod ran a titanium rod from the knee end of the tibia, through the marrow, and anchored it into the ankle end of the tibia with screws and nails. Therefore, it's like I have a semi-titanium bone now, so I can actually support a little weight on it. I move like an old grand-pa, though. Anyone got a pair of tennis balls for my walker? :rofl2:

Ahhh that explains why you're already standing on it. Well I know that no two people are the same but if it's any consolation to ya I broke my ankle on Jan 27 2006 and I was walking and driving again by April. I still was working on getting the last few % of mobility back and swelling with some nasty edema but that didn't matter. Every day is improvement from here on out. And you will look at simple things in a different light. I know just being able to carry a plate from the kitchen counter to the table without crutches was great...And walking, driving are the most liberating and motivating things you could ever imagine. You aren't going to miss out on much and you will be good as new come spring/summer!
