370z mid-cycle refresh wishlist

1 Attachment(s)
:hello: Hello all, a long time lurker here. I have been a 370z fan since it first came out in 2009. Sadly, being a poor college student, i was far from realizing the dream. But as i get closer and closer to graduation, my hopes are at all time high of finding a decent job and upgrading my ride. (If you're curious enough, i come from a nissan family. I've owned a 04 G35 coupe. But after it was totaled in 2010 :( i have been driving around a 03 accord coupe 6MT.)

Now, back to the topic. Based on past nissan trends with 350z and g35 coupe, the 370z is up for a mid-cycle refresh. Here is my short wish list for the updated Z.

(I'm going to start from the front of the car down to the back.)

1.Updated front fascia. Although the fangs are slowly growing into me, I would like to see something more lovable. Heck, i wouldnt mind if they threw in a nismo front in there.

2. reworked engine. There has been rumor about nissan going the direct fuel injection (DFI) route. It seems to be the latest trend everywhere and more power, better fuel economy, whats not to love. I am not a engine guru and do not know if it would play well with the current VVEL system.

3. update fuel gauge. No offense to current owners, but to me it is an eye sore to the otherwise beautiful interior. A multi info lcd display or a plain old needle style gauge would be nicer.

4. sportier looking, lighter bucket seats. The current seats look bland, specially the big headrest.

5. last but not the least, better exhaust note. common now nissan, work some magic here. I dont know if the same DFI would contribute here, but in my books a stock 350z sounded a lot better.

Now, its your turn. what would you like to see in the updated 370z, chime in your expert opionions and nissan lust. :tiphat:

PS: I know you can go aftermarket route and address a lot of things above. But it would be nice to have these from factory, hopefully without a big increase in price. Also, forgive me if there is too many similar threads out there; couldn't help but put it out.

Happy driving.:driving:

-A better suspension (less jarring, same or better grip. Non-linear springs maybe?). Mainly, my gripe is how easily it spins the back tires with so little torque. It shouldn't do that. The below V8 and resulting gearing change would also help in that department.

-A V8 (BMW's V8 only weighs about 40# more than the current VQ37). This would allow taller gearing without compromising low-end grunt, and the lower displacement, short-stroke V8 would allow a redline beyond 7500 with ease, as seen in the M3. This would improve exhaust note as well. Taking it from "Harsh at high rpms" to "pure sex at redline".

-An oil cooler

-A better front fascia, the car looks tall and skinny viewed from the front. Like it would tip over. I think the fascia design creates this illusion.

-Paint that isn't crap. I have YET to see a new 370Z on the dealer lot without serious scratches, some of which are through the clear, and these cars litter the lots around here with over half a dozen or more at each dealer. All of them that I have seen are jacked up. So fragile.

There you have it. My perfect Z. A 370 with 295's out back, a better suspension, taller gears, and the M3's V8 under the hood, all wrapped in some REAL paint instead of that fingernail polish Nissan currently uses, along with a sinister grin instead of that dumb-blonde "O-face" it's currently making.

Oil cooler.

Fix for the fuel tank. (for people gunning it after a sharp right turn with a 1/4 tank of fuel and shutting down)

Quieter for some? Although when I test drove it, it didn't seem that bad.

You should go to the hospital if fangs are growing into you.

You should just skip the Z, as it's obviously not up to your standars. Which is fine with most i'm guessing as the fewer on the road the more rare the car shall stay.

I like the Z the way it is. Maybe an analog fuel gauge, high quality paint. Otherwise, I think it's awesome. Love the design and the way it drives. No complaints.

Dang this thing is still open.:roflpuke2:

Or more likely it will just get the corporate axe if no one buys it.

Eh, the 370Z is just like any other mass produced car. They litter the car lots and I see them on the street often enough.

OP, I'd be happy with more power and an oil cooler. I think the Z fits pretty well into the slot that it is in. I think the suspension is damn near perfect for the car it is, and TBH, I like the fangs.

I'd also like slightly better weight distribution, but that's just me being picky.
