I seem to be one of the few who like gunmetal wheels. One day I might get around to upgrading my wheels with something like the one shown below (Volk VR-G2). I think they offer the best of both worlds, black under certain lighting and dark silver in others. Also, I really like how the 40th Anniversary wheels look.

Gunmetal is actually really popular. My summer rims for the subie are actually gunmetal.

IMO, it can be pretty tough to pull off well, since you have to deal with it sometimes looking black, and sometimes looking grey.

I tried it on the s2k for a little while, never got comfortable with the look.

I think it looked great on your S2000.

just an example so you can see what im talking about- i think the stripe really helps make the black wheels "pop".

Yeah the thin stripe helps to separate wheel from tire and looks awesome while spinning. Nice drop and stance, btw.

I think the OP meant to say he hates cheap black rims that don't work on the car.
So far, everyone who has responded with their black rims is an example of the concept done well.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the panda or stormtrooper look, so no black rims for me on my PW.
I also think black rims are soon to wane in popularity, only to resurge again in another ten years.Been there, done that. I'll spare you guys the scanned pics of my old cars with black rims :icon17:

Ive got black rims w/ winter tires. I think they look pretty sharp. I'll throw on the rays late spring.

I painted the Rays on my Lancer black before I got my 370Z, I find it looks stealth.

I am most likely staying with my stock 40th wheels for awhile, but If I changed, I could only see myself going with black, maaaaybe gunmetal. I think silver or chrome would look horrible on this colour

Its kinda like with sneakers, I can no longer wear white socks, has to be black! :)

Waiz 02-27-2011 12:04 AM

Nice wheels in this thread

Funny, I just started wearing white socks to be daring and bold.
When all the sheep are black...

I'm a polished/silver rim wheel type, myself (though the gunmetal 40th rims are pretty awesome, too :D ).

I'm with djpath: this looks good. I wasn't a fan of the 350Z styling (went with the G35 for two years instead). But what you did here makes me eat my words. Nice work!

that black 350 looks sick, job well done
