HVAC system

I have the base HVAC system in my Z. Every time I put the fan on for the vent, the AC compresser comes on and I have to then turn it off. Is there a way around this? Why would it not stay off unless I want to switch it on?? It is most annoying. As far as I can tell in the OM reading, it is supposed to do this....I think.

Thanks!

climate control usually runs a/c to control not only cooling but also humidity. why do you want the compressor off while driving on street, especially on a AT car? i know some newbs like to turn off ac when practicing MT.

i just dial in a good temp and leave it.

Gas Mileage, Power "loss", ..AC sucks the engine dry.

if you're worried about mpg you got the wrong car. for street the car has plenty of power even with a/c on... sucks engine dry... yah well my dd is a Fit so i know what that REALLY means especially on a hot and humid day with family onboard. :icon14:

Exactly!! Why would I want the comp on other than for AC or defogging on a way humid day.....which doesn't happen here in Vegas. That sucker should stay off until I put it on! My C5 Vett was the same way, drove me crazy ;)

Annoying yes, yet I do not notice the power drop unless the A/C is fully engaged. I do get horrible mileage. I rarely use the A/C for cooling. It just never gets that hot around here.

You're correct in that it's supposed to do that: it's just how it's made. It's not the best design decision but it's also the choice that makes the most sense. Even in the summer here I just roll the windows down, and if I'm on the highways, I just turn on the AC. There's plenty of power and the gas mileage is sh!t as it is.

This has been driving me nuts too... Wish there was an option for this..

Yes it is a pain. Just do what everyone else does. Push on the button...

RockStarKick 02-15-2011 11:10 AM

Also I noticed that you can't recirculate without the A/C compressor coming on...

Jeffblue 02-15-2011 11:20 AM

supposedly the AC turns off under WOT.

it certainly seems to from my experience, hell even the Z32's did this. Still, I agree its somewhat annoying, I just press the button out of habit now.

(Yes AC off = turbo)

cossie1600 02-15-2011 06:38 PM

AC cycle on and off in automatic mode, nothing to worry about. This is a 3.7L V6, plenty of power to spin the compressor
