By popular demand, here are some more pics of the car, the wife and the Vegas sun.
I tried to get her to go noodz but she outright refused. Soz USMCASA. Frankly, I don't know what her major problem is. :roflpuke2: Anyway, these are just more iPhone shots. My bro in law is a photographer so I'll have some real nice pics out on the strip soon. At Caesar's Palace parking lot: http://www.the370z.com/members/super...7947-photo.jpg (Standing out so bright next to all these cars) http://www.the370z.com/members/super...-other-car.jpg (Love the lit-up kick plates) http://www.the370z.com/members/super...ick-plates.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/super...ving-dream.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/super...ure27936-a.jpg And here it is in the shining sun on the drive minutes ago (I'll be burying those kids in the desert if their ball hits it). http://www.the370z.com/members/super...3-img-1637.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/super...hining-sun.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/super...4-img-1638.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/super...5-img-1639.jpg |

Actually, I have a few questions for you peeps. Just silly ones really:
1) Vegas isn't _that_ cold, but on cold mornings how long to you guys let the car tick over before driving off? I always thought the longer the better, but then I read that just driving straight away slowly, which obviously warms the engine up quicker, causes less wear than letting it tick over cold for 10 minutes. 2) I find engaging second gear to be a bit sharp on the bite - I can pull off from still no worries, uphill no worries, I've driven manuals my whole life so I consider myself pretty experienced. But on the Z engaging second gear I sometimes get a bit of a lurch unless I'm SUPER gentle with the clutch release which is a little tedious. Do you guys feel it too? I've never really had this before, but then I've never really had a high-performance car. 3) What little extras/add-ons should I get first? Small shiz like locking wheel nuts (already top of my list)? Which brands of these things are best: Cleaners, polish/wax, oil (ester?), erm.. anything else I need? 4) Someone told me using the Cruise control uses more gas than not. I fail to see how that could be true if the car's just maintain the same speed I would be doing myself, but please do fill me in if I'm wrong...? 5) How much of a hit does the MPG take when the AC is on with the Z? Also, I presume when it blows hot it's not using any gas because it's using hot water from the rads, right? 6) I f--cking span the wheels in THIRD yesterday. THIRD GEAR. I was like WTF? I really didn't expect it to spin up. Do I need to change the tires? Are the standard ones sh-t? 7) Where are the VEGAS PEOPLE?! I wanna get involved in this Vegas Z Club I hear about. I'm really happy to be a part of this community - I was excited about getting a Z before I knew it came attached to such an awesome and enthusiastic community. Now I just look forward to becoming more integrally involved. :driving: 8) Any general tips guys? Any pointers on operation, cleaning, or just driving tips in general? Just anything you can share with an enthusiastic new owner. I'm used to knowing how to drive my cars hard, knowing how to reach near-limits without being overly dangerous (used to have a Civic Type-R in London, great fun), but the Z is considerably more powerful so a little daunting. Thanks for any and all your input guys. :tiphat: |

here you go, tanooki-
>1) Vegas isn't _that_ cold, but on cold mornings how long to you guys let give it a good 30sec and drive off. no need to warm up the car, especially not unless you're sub -20F. just drive gently until the water temp is up to about middle and your oil temp is around 180F. that's about when is start pushing it pretty gooooood. :D >2) I find engaging second gear to be a bit sharp on the bite - I can pull off just give it a touch of gas as you normally do when you engage to maintain flywheel momentum. just drive gently and you'll get the hang of it. the clutch appears to engage around the middle but it starts engaging pretty low near the floor. >3) What little extras/add-ons should I get first? Small shiz like locking wheel wheel locks could help, but if your car's parked out doors get an aftermarket alarm system with tilt sensor. that will deter most theives trying to steal your wheels. as far as wax, i use Griot's Garage and Prima stuff. Car Care, Detail Supplies, Garage Organization, Car Accessories - Griot's Garage 800-345-5789 or go to Phil's shop, he's a vendor here and carries Prima stuff: www.detailersdomain.com >4) Someone told me using the Cruise control uses more gas than not. I fail usually it uses less as it's computer controlled rather than lead-foot of new excited Z-er. :D >5) How much of a hit does the MPG take when the AC is on with the Z? no idea, but my AC is on all the time...well, in auto-mode. >6) I f--cking span the wheels in THIRD yesterday. THIRD GEAR. I was like new tires require breakin to remove release oil from the mold. it's also possible your tires are still cold. keep psi 35-37 cold (measure in the morning in your garage or before sun comes up cause heat from sun will increase psi and throw off your readings). >7) Where are the VEGAS PEOPLE?! I wanna get involved in this Vegas Z no idea. :D >8) Any general tips guys? Any pointers on operation, cleaning, or just nissan paint is soft so use the softest clay you can find (i use Griot's mud-like yellow clay only on nissan paint) and use 2 bucket method when washing your car in the shade. learn more in the detailing section. :D |
That's great, thanks Kenchan! My tire pressure light is coming on at night right now so I almost certainly have a pressure issue then.
The second gear clutch thing was my MAIN issue - I thought I was doing something wrong/being a noob. I'll gas it a little as I re-engage if that's what you do, I'm just worried about causing extra clutch wear with the opposite-direction slip if I do it that way. Baseless paranoia? I was also worried my clutch was high. It bites REALLY high, like you said. The dealer said brand new Zs have high clutches but I wasn't convinced. New cars I've driven before always bite super low. So was there more truth in his claim than I thought? |
tanooki- you should be able to engage 2nd with light throttle with NO clutch slipping. you're just giving just a tad of throttle to maintain flywheel speed.
the full clutch engagement point is pretty high on the z, but it starts grabbing pretty close to the floor. should be no issue. :) |
Congrats on your new car! I wanted a Z since 2002. It took a long time to get it out of my head. That desire came back when the 370Z was introduced. I was seriously considering the 370Z for 2 months. Then, I found this forum. Signed up on a Sunday to try to find out things to watch out for and reasons not to get the car. Went test driving on Wednesday, bought the car on Friday. So for me, it was kind of a long-ish wait too, but glad I bought a 370Z. Red is a great colour...I probably would have gotten that if I couldn't get the 40th. Enjoy.
|
LOL sweet! Dude, my wife is getting sick of me talking about this car. And I have to wait until the end of the year.
|
Congrats man! the Red is sweet!
I hear you, my obsession started like 4-5 yrs ago for a 350 and I finally just made it a reality with a 40th anniversary edition 2 weeks ago. Sitting in my garage now though...:( enjoy! :D |
Congrats on the beautiful lady!

It was nice running into u today..as I pull in to park and saw a red Z I immediately knew it was u since u didn't have a license plate yet lol..Red was one of my choice as well but it's gonna be more for insurance and registration..plus it's a cop magnet so I didn't get it..nice color though

Man, I was REALLY looking for a blue one but they're just so damned rare. I could never find one and when I did it was always base-no-sport, or automatic, or full of all the extras which I didn't want. I specifically wanted a manual, sport, and the only extra I wanted was the light-up kick plates. And red was my second choice, that's why when I saw this one, with everything just the way I wanted, I just jumped on it. |
cool

This is something I found on adjusting the clutch for a lower engagement point. How To Lower Clutch pedal engagement in a Infiniti G37 or Nissan 370z Nice Z brother, I'm sure u'll take good care of it. :)

Nissan rules. I didn't make them up. |
from the way the light reflected off it in the deck that gave me an idea. that red would look pretty good with a single white stripe on it in the middle. nice pics of both rides

oh my god, i need to archive this thread for kenchan actually being helpful isntead of calling me faux japanese!

Actually, guys I have another question, hoping you can help. My paint has all those fine little scratches all over it - from previous cleaning I guess, done with little care.
Is there any SIMPLE process for getting rid of these? Any special cleaner/wax I can just buff on by hand a few times or something? The dealership said "Mothers". I'm from UK, now in US - I didn't realize Mothers was a brand for a WHOLE LINE of stuff, so I'm still none the wiser. I searched the forum and found those Jumkman vids, but that looks about as involved as respraying the thing, which I can't afford to do any time soon. So yeah, simple process and the name of restoration products (if any)... that's what I need... |
those are called swirls. you can use a foam pad with ScratchX and some elbow grease... will take about 3-5 apps depending on how deep it is. then wax afterwards.
personally i use my random orbital to polish those out. :) you need to use the 2 bucket method when washing your car and blot dry. otherwise you'll get all sorts of swirls in solid colors like your red. :) |
