That looks like the identical shade what Porsche used as 'Gun Metal' for their 2008/911 Turbo.

Amazing colour, never shows any swirls or scratches and looks incredible, if this was available when I bought my 370z I would have got it instead of Black.

Posted photos of both GM and PG to compare.

What are your thoughts on the Gun Metallic vs the Platinum Graphite?

Will the new color devalue the Platinum Graphites?

what are your thoughts on the GM and 40thQ ...

I much prefer the 40th quartz (call me biased). Because it was a special anniversary color I'm glad gun metallic is different. However, if I can't get the 40th quartz, I would choose gun metallic. I didn't like how the 35th Anniversary Z had special wheels, and then the following year, those same wheels were standard on all Touring models.

I agree, darker silvers/greys look good. 5 years ago when I bought my FX45, the darker silver choice was diamond graphite, which was very close to platinum graphite. Since the late 1990's light silvers have become very popular so the darker diamond graphite was a fresh change at the time...just like gun metallic is also a nice change.

My 40th quartz is hard to keep clean though...almost as hard as black.

i havent seen them side by side but 40th q is way beter.. im biased too hahhaha

IMO 40th>GM>PG
I like the tint of purple over the tint of blue.
But...If they had GM when I got the 40th, I probably would have gotten a GM nismo. Im not a fan of the PG, its just too silver. Sorry, I don't mean to offend PG owners.

Meh.

As with all things, there are many shades of gray.

FWIW, I like the 40th variant on the color gray best.

I'd have to see this color in person. I don't see much diff between the two but it appears GM has a less metallic appearance to it and more of a solid hue. It's nice, but I like how in the right lighting PG accentuates the lines of the 370z.

And I'm not just saying that because I own a PG :)

Totally agree

Doesnt it kinda anger you a bit that they are using a similar color to the 40th quartz? As a fellow 40th owner the colors are very similar to me and I feel like its a bit of a slap in the face to a color out like this...i dont mean to sound snobby at all, its just out of all the colors they could have provided they use one that is close to the special 40th quarts, why not do a dark blue or something

...or orange, or green, or some other vibrant colour. Why another silver/grey based colour??? Who knows. Plus, I tought that black rose (black cherry) was supposed to be a one year special colour? I guess not. Nissan's done that before...when the 35th Anniv came out, it came with different 5 spoke wheels. The following years, that wheel design was standard.

I personally like GM better than PG although I love PG, hence why I bought a PG Z. Gun metallic has a much colder metallic hue which I think looks sharper in certain lights in contrast to the warmer bronze like metallic hues that PG can take on in direct light.

saber 02-10-2011 02:39 PM

they should have started with GM in the first place, and stop trying to develop different shades of gray. white, silver, PG, GM, 40th Q, black, WTF????

then it's red, black cherry, and blue making up the balance? 2/3rds of the Zs are monochrome! haha

CrownR426 02-10-2011 02:49 PM

I don't think it matters at all lol...
When it comes down to it we all drive the same 370z.
