This close to losing my FOB

So I went to get my car detailed and Hand waxed today. When the were done I went to my car and I was in kind of a hurry so I pressed the start button and drove off. Well I meeting my wife and kids around the block to eat. When I got there I jumped out of the car and pushed the lock button on the outside of the door. The car gave me the keys are in the car idiot beep. So I remembered that they didn't hand me the key. But it started so the had to be in the car? I search the cup holder, center console, the door pockets, the glove box, the hatch and even under the seats. I even tried redrafting the car to make sure the key was there. Then I looked at the dash and I see the FOB. So I reach the grab it, only problem the windshield was in my way. I frickin drove from the detailer to the restaurant with the FOB sitting on a windshield whipper blade. Thank god that the $150 fob with $300 programming didn't fall out while I was driving causing me to have to leave my $36000 car unlocked.

Its called aerodynamics. :D

I thought only the 40th anniversary came with fob holding wipers? :icon17:

This is one of the more unusual reasons why keyless ignition isn't always a good thing!:p

Yes in a straight line however I did make turns Luckily enough Centrifugal force didn't through it into the street.

So you confess you drive like a wimp. ;)

Lemers 01-29-2011 09:54 AM

Lucky for me there was too much traffic and too many lights and not enough distance to really get going.

Jeffblue 01-29-2011 10:46 AM

if you had a nismo you wouldn't have had to worry because all the extra downforce on the car is designed to hold keyfobs in place on the windshield. The detailer must have mistaken your crappy non nismo 370z for the much better, aerodynamically superior nismo 370z. :p

that reminds me of a story when i was a little kid. i was playing basket ball in the driveway with my brother, i took my watch off and put it on the trunk of my mom's car and forgot about it. then later she went out and i realized i left my watch on her car. i ran down the block and found it in the middle of the road run over by a car.

Lemers 01-29-2011 10:53 AM

Isn't the nismo a base model with a $10k body kit?

I found a screwdriver in my wiper blade area on my old Altima one time. Thing is, the last time a screwdriver was used on it was like 3 months before that.... so it's been there that whole time. I guess things hold well in the wiper section without falling out, unless you roll your car lol.

it's a common problem, true story

Lemers 01-29-2011 12:39 PM

I'm glad I didn't hitthe FOB catapult switch.

Dark Sarcasm 01-29-2011 12:45 PM

i left a set of Mechanix gloves on the front bumper of a Jeep one time. Drove about 5 miles to the part store, came out with my purchase and my gloves were still there.

You don't have to worry about things like this if you drive a WS6

sonic370 01-29-2011 07:02 PM

There is no such thing as centrifugal force, it's a myth. The force that causes things to move in an arc or circle is called centripetal force, it's a force pointing at the center of rotation. What people call "centrifugal" force is actually Newton's first law, which states that objects in motion tend to stay in the same motion unless acted on by another force...so it's not a force at all. In the case of turning, that force is centripetal force. There is actually no "force" pushing you to the outside of the corner, what you feel is centripetal force pushing you toward the center of the circle.

What would cause your key fob to become lost, is actually a lack of centripetal force required to keep it on the same turning radius as the car.

I know I'm smart ***, but I didn't pay $100k for a degree in physics for nothing.

After reading this post, I will always ask for my key (fob) before I even start the car. If they tell me it's in the car, I will find it and put it in my pocket before starting. Just have to modifiy your common sense when you have a keyless car.

What time did it read? Just thinking you could have found out who ran it over with some basic detective work. :icon17:

I thought they gave him someone else's Nissan fob..? I have my piloti keychain on mine so easier to distinguish if mine or not.
