Protecting your Z. De-Fender? Bumperpad?

As much as I think those rear bumper pads are hideous, they work. They are popping up all over the place, especially where I live in NYC. Parallel parking in tight spots is common, as well as seeing people bump into other people's cars. I didn't care for any of this before while driving an old Integra.

The De-Fender is just a rubber mat, while the Bumperpad is a full protection, padded that is more resilient.

I see people installing the clear bras and they look alright to me, but I just don't like how it kills some of the shine of the paint job and you can definitely see the outlines, plus it eventually turning yellow.

Do any of you bother with this, or take the gamble.

Well, those rubber mats scratch the paint slightly every time they are used so it depends on whether slightly duller paint or continuous scratches are more of a nuisance to you. I would personally do clear bra as a first choice over having those black rubber pads hanging on your car in my opinion.

:iagree: You have to make sure you keep them really clean. Pain in the a$$ IMO.

A clear bra is not going to protect you from bumpers, only rock chips. Don't buy any of those bumper guards, they will ruin your paint!!!!

for the front i'd get something like this: Front & Rear Bumper Protection, Car Bumper Guards, Bumper Protectors

for the back: Rear Bumper Guard | Bumper Protection | Tech-Naissance Bumper Guard

nothing that touches your actual car!

i like how the Rear Bumper Guard section is specifically under "Ultimate NYC Parking Package"

1 car sucks enough in NYC and 2 would just not be worth it. If he doesn't have a garage to park one of the cars, he's going to be parking in the street anyway and street parking 2 cars will be too much hassle. Especially with street cleaning and alternate side parking rules are applicable.

Might as well get a parking garage spot to avoid street parking and always park in garages if you can afford it.

sounds like someone needs to move out to the burbs....

Those foam pads that use the license plate location are so cool! That is definitely the way I would go for the front, the rear idea is cool as well. The only problem I see with any of these is that if someone hits you with any real force, the bumper will have physical damage or distortion in that area regardless of a pad to protect it.

Good luck though, it is not easy having a car in the city!

no, i store mine in a garage and try not to street park.

iff2mastamatt 01-11-2011 07:32 PM

I wouldn't buy one, you're pretty much saying it's ok to bump your car when you have one on.

wdkwang 01-11-2011 07:42 PM

that's another way to put it
