2011 NISMO 370Z Hood alignment?
Hello all! Just put my first 98 "break-in" miles on my recetly purchased Z. While walking around the front of the car I noticed that the DS front corner of the hood along the front headlight is raised about a quarter of an inch. Not sure if I recieved the car that way or if something else is going on. Has anyone else seen this or had this problem. Pretty frustrating to find something like this on a brand new car. I opened the hood to ensure nothing in the engine bay caused it to raise and verified the opposite side is flush.

Open the hood and let it shut from about 12" high. The hood has two latches on either side instead of a single latch in the middle. If the hood isn't closed from a certain height and with the right amount of force, it can look misaligned as one latch catches while the other one doesn't.
I noticed it after detailing my car for the first time. I popped the hood to detail the engine bay and when I closed it, it did the same thing. I freaked out and thought the the hood was misaligned. Hopefully this is the problem. Good luck. |
my passenger side front of the hood is slightly raised as well. theres instructions in the service manual on how to adjust hood alignment, just have been too lazy to do it. you can also take it to the dealer, they can do it under warranty without any trouble. i just havent had the time to do that either..

Will ensure hood is latching and realign IAW owners manual should that not work. Appreciate the quick and courteous responses - Cheers!

No problem hope it works out for you.. |
Fixed
JGreenwood got it right; I was too gentle with my new Z. Have to use more force than "normal" in order to get both latches to catch. Thanks folks!:tiphat:

That got me in the few days after I brought the Z home.
I don't slam hoods shut, though. I just lay the hood down gently and then use a palm (in the Z's case, both palms) to firmly engage the latches. |
Shouldnt press down hood using palms, can cause dents. Proper way is to let it drop. Dont worry, it wont break.

There are two rubber stoppers on either side of the hood, they are screws... adjust them accordingly...
First, see if they are both fully screwed in... If not, do so , and check the alignment... if its still off, unscrew the side that needs more of a gap, do so until it evens out gap. Mine was off and my performance shop taught me this, they adjusted my mine to be perfect within a matter of seconds. |
Did you get your hood aligned ?
