This has been discussed numerous amounts of times and it won't matter what evidence I point out. You will just deny it and say you can get better parts for the $$$. Yeah WE KNOW that. What you don't seem to understand is that for the money it is pretty cool set up. And it ain't a $10k body kit. You can get this you can get that.......... Read every review on the Nismo they all say it's better than a standard Z. Slightly, don't freak out, it's not a huge 100hp difference or 2 whole sec faster in the quarter mile....... It's more than just a body kit. It's been discussed over and over and over and you guys are the type that need justification for your $$$ spent, understand that. The Nismo is not for you yes we get it. But yeah just read the specs if you think it's the same, you know how to read right. Your basing it on a performance difference and not an overall driving experience and your gonna need to drive it more than 5 min to appreciate it. :koolaidwall:

Why so serious?

Nismoracer 01-10-2011 12:01 AM

Hmm if you took it serious...... apologies not meant to be.

Lemers 01-10-2011 12:04 AM

It was a novel. A lot a thought put into that reply.

Nismoracer 01-10-2011 12:08 AM

Really? I didn't think it was that long. Just a couple lines. :tiphat: Well O.P. good luck with the choices. You can't go wrong with either one, it's just what you want more.

Pushing_Tin 01-10-2011 12:08 AM

fucking noobs.

Nismoracer 01-10-2011 12:10 AM

Booo........

LinPark 01-10-2011 08:33 AM

I'm confused - when did the NISMO come into the picture? He has an '09 Red Z now and is looking at a Challenger - is he also considering a NISMO? Heck, if he wants the best maybe he should just find an '04.5 350Z - I hear they are FLAWLESS! :bowrofl:

The last 3 pages wasn't really for the OP it was because I am also looking for either the challenger or the nismo 370 I don't have either and nismoracer had both so I was asking his opinion. Didn't mean to hijack the OPs thread.

Ah, ok, well I looked at the Nismo as well versus the base - I honestly don't think that most people who buy it do so purely for performance. Its a novelty really much like the 40th Anniversary Edition. If it's what you want, then go for it.

I like this Challenger, I think it looks great! But no matter how much HP or suspension tuning they do, there is no hiding 4,000+ lbs around a corner.

Look real close at that picture - you don't see any corners or any gas stations so you know it has to be a fake. :roflpuke2:

I do like the look of the Challenger to some extent - personally, its not for me but I've given up all that snobbery. These days when I see a nice car on the road that has been well cared for, I still smile because I know behind it is a person that is just as passionate about automobiles as I am - if that car makes them happy, then I'm happy for them.

To me, the Challenger is a monstrous car and that doesn't fit my style. I'm starting to see Camaro's and Challenger's everywhere here along with a Mustang every mile or so on the Interstate. The other day I was out in my 370Z and I came across a couple in a black Challenger - they couldn't stop staring at my car while I only glanced at theirs because I had seen 2 others a few minutes before. I'm just sayin'. :)

Also, I am yet to see a Nismo 370Z or a 40th Anniversary Edition on the road here. To me uniqueness has value - you should see the heads turn when I take the old 280Z out on the road - I've seen a golfer stop mid-swing and start running over to the edge of the course to get a better look. :rofl2: And believe me, she don't have 400+ ponies, weigh 4000+ lbs, and growl at you all day long, but man she's purdy!

rede2go 01-10-2011 01:29 PM

Well I do agree I haven't seen a nismo since maybe Sept. a base 370 last week and a challenger in the diner parking lot last night. That is the thing I like about the 370 is that it is unique.

Thanks for the replies

Thanks for the replies, they almost all made perfect sense. I should have added, I have owned 5 Mazda Rx7's going back to 1979. I have always liked sports cars especially ones a working stiff could afford. Having said that, I was never enamored of the Rx8 with its back seat and lack of power. This is why I went with the Z. I love this car and the way it handles. It is not like I am wearing a glove, it is more like we are one. This is an emotional and spiritual experience some of the more pedestrian minded might not be able to comprehend. Now, to those who are unable to understand why anyone posts such questions, it is actually rather simple. They are under many pressures from family, friends, and so forth which do carry some weight. There is also the emotional aspect of really loving a car and not thinking clearly due to that desire, much like a young man feels toward a girl. His emotions may cloud his judgment when in love and or infatuated. It is always good to step away and have a look at the question from a distance. Not always being able to do so, asking others provides a surrogate perspective that some of us need from time to time. Finally, it is possible others are in the same situation and they may find some vicarious value from reading about people in similar situations. I know that is one reason why I love to read posts here even if I don't respond. The responses actually were very helpful and it goes back to, what was I thinking? Now, not to offend anyone, the 5.0 was never my cup of tea (no independent rear). Thanks anyway. I am going to do the Barracuda (68) with the 378 hp 360. Oh yeah, I am over the hill so help me out here, what is a DD?

Nismoracer 01-10-2011 08:46 PM

daily driver - a car that you would drive everyday :driving:
as opposed to a garage queen like my 370z :)

yeah if you want a nimble car, it ain't it but as a american muscle car, it is it. when you hear the term "an american muscle car", you would picture in your mind a large and powerful car, like the challenger :)

m4a1mustang 01-10-2011 09:20 PM

Yeah, the Challenger is the only Muscle Car left. The Mustang goes and handles too well to be classified as Muscle. The Camaro is just a piece. :p

mick 01-10-2011 09:26 PM

don't get me wrong, i like all of three american muscle cars. but i've got to pick a favorite -- in term of performance, the other two are much better. :)

m4a1mustang 01-10-2011 09:32 PM

The thing that is interesting is that the Challenger actually isn't that bad. I drove one once and expected it to be bad in the corners, but it really just felt like a big sport sedan. It has lots of grip and the suspension carries all that weight really well. Its pleasantly surprising. It's still a car that you could take out to the mountains and have some fun with... It just wont carve through corners like the Z and Brembo 5.0.

Inspector71 01-10-2011 10:40 PM

Having both

Having both would be my choice but not possible. When I bought my Z in 2009, I had looked at the Challenger R/T (5.7 which I believe is a 360 Cube hemi). Around the Kansas City area, I couldn't find one for less than $35K. Even though the price has come down so to speak, one of the factors that made me have doubts was the price for used models with less than 10K miles. Every car "loses" value after sold to a greater or lesser degree but the Challenger's loss was fairly significant. Anyway, I am going to finish my 68 Barracuda and am considering picking up a nice Frontier 4x4 as my DD.

Red370 01-11-2011 04:55 AM

2012 Boss 302 > Any Challenger. Faster, purpose built to race, fully adjustable suspension, Brembos, specific keys for track/daily use tunes, c'mon man, it doesnt get better. Oh, and did I mention it costs less?

Yeah Red where the heck have u been!

Inspector71 01-13-2011 11:58 AM

Lots of good ideas

What I never seen around here are 370Zs! The dealer sells them on a regular basis but I rarely see any on the road. Mustangs are okay, no offense, but they are a dime a dozen around here. I am seeing more Challengers but way more Camaros. For me the Mustang is kind of like the Corvette, just not unique enough.

m4a1mustang 01-13-2011 12:00 PM

Yeah, it really depends on where you are. Up here I see far more 370s than I do new 5.0 Mustangs. Most all the Mustangs around here are V6s but the 350/370 outnumber them.

M41AMustang

Norhtern Virginia? My family was living in Alexandria when I was born (Bethesda Naval Hospital, mom in Navy, Dad in Marines). I have a question for you. I have checked out some of the specs provided here by various members on the Mustang and it seems to me this may be a better deal than the Camaro or Challenger I looked at. All gussied up, with the 5.7 engine NOT the 6.1, the Dodge dealer across the street from where I am typing this wants $39K! I have a 66 Plymouth Sport Fury 440 CID and it weights about 3800 pounds and is much larger than the Challenger. I still cannot understand why Chrysler has to make their cars so heavy. So is the Mustang the better deal?

Jack away

My original post left a great deal of lattitude so I certainly have no problem with hi-jacking anything. I have enjoyed everything I have read. Two observations. Yesterday I had to take my wife's Sentra to work because my Z wouldn't even get out of my tiny cul de sac. Everyone drove on the 5 to 7 inches of snow before the plow got to us and turned it into hard pack. I traded in a Pathfinder for this Z so its been a long time since I was stuck, sliding backwards, side ways, and so forth. But when I got home, I had missed my Z. Also, I really like the Red Z, but the pearl white one has really grown on me. In fact, if I get another one, it will probably be white. Finally, I decided to grab myself by the collar and ask a tough question. The Z is a sports car, the Challenger is a muscle sedan. Trying to decide between them is, at the risk of sounding cliche, like deciding between an apple or an orange. That is the real issue, do I want an apple or an orange. Instead of bothering you folks with this question, maybe I need to spend some more time on the apple or orange question. I thank everyone for their patience.

m4a1mustang 01-14-2011 12:24 PM

The problem is, as a car guy, you'll have the apple but want the orange. Then when you get the orange you miss the apple.

It's really tough what we have to deal with. :icon17:

There are so many cars I want to have all at the same time but right now it's just not possible.

mick 01-14-2011 12:25 PM

only jay leno can have them all :)
