Manual mode

How many of you drive the 7sp auto in manual mode all the time or most of the time and have you had any problems with the auto in doing this. How is the torque converter holding up to this usage?

Thanks

Vegitto-kun 01-04-2011 04:18 PM

I drive manual mode about 70% of the time. torque convertor still holding on.

kenchan 01-04-2011 04:18 PM

they hell are you doing, nicknick? :icon17:

Vegitto-kun 01-04-2011 04:21 PM

finally admitting to himself that 7sd is superior?

LuckyJinx 01-04-2011 04:21 PM

you flip them. flip flip flip

so stupid.

platyperz 01-04-2011 04:27 PM

The 7 speed auto is awesome. I use it very infrequently thought. Those of you that do, do you worry about increased oil temps?

I feel that I would need an engine and transmission oil cooler to be safe.

yes you go push and pull that phallic object you shift with.

kenchan 01-04-2011 04:36 PM

hey at least the flipper is stationary on your cars.... on my other Honda, the stupid thing spins with the steering wheel for the ultimate fun in shifting while turning.

so i just floor the pos since it shifts up at redline. :D

LuckyJinx 01-04-2011 04:39 PM

If u redline it doesn't it automatically change gears? Cause I did it with my bro's es350.

Vegitto-kun 01-04-2011 04:42 PM

nah if you redline it it just shut down the throttle.

too low in revs it downshift but redlining just kill it.

which is odd since I remember the GT-R upshifting at redline

is that even healthy? most of the time when I see redline bouncing it ends up with a blown engine.

Its fine if during shiftup. It blows the engine if you're on a manual and accidentally downshift to a low gear outside its speed range. Like 2nd gear at 80 or something.

So this auto holds up well to a high percentage of manual mode usage then right? I test drove an auto today and it was great, BUT, there was something lacking. Could not work out exactly what it may be. After a while I thought about it and figured out that what was lacking was the feel/excitement/interaction you get from a manual. I have asked the dealer to call me when he has a manual demonstrator for a test drive. Having said that, I still may opt for an auto cause the traffic here in Melbourne sucks and is only going to get worse cause our lousy government is bringing in immigrants and doing NOTHING about our roads or public transport system.
So now waiting for the dealer to call

GTR shifts at redline if you leave it in normal mode. When the tranny is in Race mode, it'll bounce off the limiter as long as you'd want it to.

And it will always be missing too. To trade this excitement for .1 seconds 0-60, is the choice. I made mine. Good luck with yours.

Why get a 7AT when you can get the 6MT and be super cool? You don't even need to use the clutch. Just throw it into the next gear. :stirthepot:
