New Competition? 2012 Camaro V6 bumped to 325 or 330 hp

Looks like Chevy is trying to get competitive, figure they are still too heavy to compete directly as much though (and still fugly):

Its the version that sells in mass quantities so the V8 versions can exist. :)

There is still a +400 lb weight penalty for the Camaro so unless you are a terrible driver you won't be bested by one.

its funny reading the forum replies about how amazing that a v6 is producing that kinda power, lol but when the Z did it, its bash city...what a bunch of tools

theDreamer 01-04-2011 10:58 AM

Meh

Well HP per liter is a crock in general. It all depends on how far the manufacturer is willing to push the engine.

'10Anamoly 01-04-2011 12:07 PM

Agreed, I am not worried about them unless they get that motor and drop a good 300+ lbs all of the sudden.

CrownR426 01-04-2011 12:12 PM

Uh...
Competition...?
Do you even know how much that car weighs?
lol!
So basically you're saying that the heavy camaro with a V6 is rival.
I don't think so...
A V8 is equal or a little bit faster in a straight compared to a 370z.
V6 I think not.

m4a1mustang 01-04-2011 12:46 PM

It is still close enough to where you can't be a crappy MT driver and still beat it. :D

There was a time not so long ago when the fastest American-made production car was sporting a V6.

Simmer down yo, read the posts, the car is obviously heavier and all. Nobody said you were not the fastest and most furious. :nutswinger:

If he wasn't furious before, he will be when he reads your post.:icon18:

murphman 01-04-2011 12:58 PM

To be honest its needs a bump. its a full second behind a v6 mustang and a second + behind a Z,that 20 horse power or so wont make up that difference so im not scared

Yep, a V6 Buick was the baddest thing America made at the time, and that car is still in the 10's for a very small cash outlay. Love 'em! Wish I had one for a DD.

m4a1mustang 01-04-2011 01:09 PM

I would hate one for a DD. The Grand National is pretty sweet as a 1/4 mile sleeper-type car, but actually driving it around on the daily... heck no. At the end of the day it's just a piece of crap 1980s Buick that drives like a 1980s Buick. The only difference is this one goes really fast in a straight line. :D

A DD is supposed to be a POS, then you go home and get in your Z06/GTR/Gallardo/whatever and have fun. I just really like the look and history of the GN.

Meh, a DD is not supposed to be a POS. Beater is supposed to be a POS.

A DD is meant to be a practical car. It's supposed to be comfortable and/or economical, and inexpensive. It can be fun or pretty, but that's not the primary function.

A beater is just any car that has seen much better days, a car you're driving into the ground. My Mazda6 is both a beater and a DD.

GZ3 01-04-2011 01:52 PM

my DD is Ford Raptor 6.2 definatly not a POS

I forgot to mention that. DD's can be practical in terms of work. An AWD vehicle or a towing vehicle certainly qualifies.

m4a1mustang 01-04-2011 02:14 PM

DD doesn't have to be inexpensive. Your DD could be an Infiniti M56 and your fun car could be a 370Z TT.

Lemers 01-04-2011 02:44 PM

A DD os what ever you as an individual is comfortable driving everyday. I am not one to have cars that sit around and collect dust so my DD is my Z.

Fixed. :p

LuckyJinx 01-04-2011 04:27 PM

A GT-R doesn't scare me so neither will a v6 bone-maro.

FOR SURE. Grand Nationals are hard core. I am amazed by those things. Saw a NICE all black one the other day...... My barber has one...

steveg78 01-04-2011 11:51 PM

The GNs are fun to watch at the track. They just sail away in one solid motion...It even sounds like they just have one big gear the way that tranny shifts.
