Z'er thinking of Evo10mr

Hello all!
I first got my Z34 when it first came out and lately I've been thinking of switching... The only car I can think about as of now is the EVO10 MR...
It has 4 seats, 4 cylinder turbo, brembo's, recaro seats, DCT!
I would like previous evo owners to chime in or z lovers that went over to the evo's! Can you guys help me with pros and cons of each

First and foremost, the biggest asset the EVO has is bang for the buck. There is a huge aftermarket, you can easily get 50-70whp with simple bolt ons and a tune, and you have a back seat along with a trunk even though the trunk is not exactly stellar. Compared to the Z, you lose refinement, interior styling and quality, and in my opinion you lose character as I felt the EVO X has little character (prior EVOs were much more raw).

Also if you plan on modding the EVO, the DCT transmissions hate extra power.

go for GSR if you want power, elsewhere, MR is still a good choice.
if you want more power, why not try GTM TT kit?
You will lose couple of thousands from trade-in your Z for EvoX anyway.

As a previous owner of an Evo X MR, I would highly advise that you reconsider buying an MR, or an Evo in general.

For the following reasons...
1. Very poor build quality. If you thought Z made sounds, wait until you get in and drive an Evo.
2. Hideous interior material quality. One of the worst interiors I've ever experienced in a sports car. Everything is so lightly made and PLASTIC.
3. Not mod friendly. Especially an MR. You'll expect major headaches even if you put a down pipe and a Cobb tune on the car. So easy to damage a MAF sensor, even with just a drop in air filter.
4. MR Trans over heating issues. If you ever decided to track the car, you'll find yourself pulling into the pits every 2 laps for over heating issues.
5. MR SST feel. If you are expecting the trans to be anything like GT-R's or any other current dual clutch set up, you'll be very disappointed. It's too soft, too slow, almost feels like an auto. Oh, the pedal shifters feel crappy as well, when you push in on oen, they other side moves, BAD BAD quality.

The car does offer a hell of performance for what it costs, I won't deny that, but if you are going to get an Evo, get a GSR.

Good luck.

Moreover, if you are thinking about going to test drive an Evo soon, try this experiment to evaluate the interior quality. There are three knobs on the climate control panel, located directly in front of the shifter. Push on one of the knobs, push firmly, and watch the whole damn panel move and make sounds. YUCK.

To add more fuel to the fire, Google "Evo X pedal break"

lol...
all of a sudden this is making me want to keep my z...
what about the new STI's?

Better interior quality from the Evo, still below 370Z. Awesome transmission but engine not so good. I believe the stock engine can hold somewhere around 360hp? Pistons are real weak on the EJ25. (Lol for giggles, Google STi ringland issues)

Evo X = weak drivetrain, awesome engine, better out of the box suspension
STi = weak engine, awesome transmission, understeer from factory
Z = true sports car, more $ per mod than above cars, RWD? (awd seems to be destroying time attack events)

Pick your poison, no car is perfect.

Hey, Mitsubishi and Subaru should join together and create one awesome beast of a rally car? lol forget the Subaru/Toyota alliance.

No real input from me here except that I think the Z looks a lot better. The EVO/STI seems to be the vehicle for someone who needs a family car but wants a ricer and doesn't want to drill the holes in the trunk for the spoiler themselves.

:gtfo2: you must really not like your Z, otherwise why would you be wanting any of these sedans???

Woahhhh no need to be so offensive mate!
I've been here for a while.
Just thoughts, I will be going to Subaru, Mitsubishi, Ford, BMW dealers tomorrow for test drives! :stirthepot:

Tip for the Subaru WRX STi: in order to get the maximum "race mode", adjust Si Drive to Sport #, differential to auto (-), and turn off VDC.

i guess if it's your only car then a sedan/hatch makes more sense, but for me, the PRIMARY reason why i got the z is for my own personal enjoyment and space away from work, family, friends, etc.

Yeah we are really some of the original OG here! I would drive a new Mustang GT, I would have purchased one except there were a few annoying things that I couldn't get over. I'm liking not having a car payment right now though. Let us know what happens! :eekdance:
