this good idea?

I had my Z for around 6 months now and I have already put on over 7k miles on the my z ><;; My goal was 1 year, 10k... but its not going so well...

So i go to school in ucsd and one of my new years resolution is not to drive my z for a quarter (10weeks). Now is that bad for the car? like if i dont even touch or turn on the car for 10 weeks? Also? should i turn on the car once a week or drive the car a little as well? Lmk, and i even bought a car cover at costco ^_^;;

Check the winter hibernation threads for input. :) I go without driving my rwd's in the snow season.

If you drive it, drive up until it's up to temp. No sense in just getting condensation in all the fluids that you never burn out. I would drive it at least once every 2 weeks.

Seems kind of arbitrary to me. I'll bet it would be easier to drive it less than go through the "winter hibernation" steps kenchan and others follow.

Are you leasing the car? Otherwise, why care about mileage, especially since you are hovering near the average of 12k per year?

murphman 12-30-2010 08:20 AM

at least there is one good reason for living in Houston. a while back when i was shoping for a new car a dealership asked what my mileage was and it eneded up they considered 18-20k per year average since pretty much all we do is drive in Houston

6 months and im over 10k!!! i dont usually drive this much but just cant seem to help it!

kenchan 12-30-2010 10:51 AM

I think jay's thinking about leaving the car at home maybe?

It's 13 weeks in a quarter not 10. You must be an Arts major!:p I don't know how long you plan on keeping your Z but a few extra miles per year won't hurt the trade-in value or wear out the car based on your current use which is average for most people as a DD.

esfourteen 12-30-2010 01:02 PM

unless it's a lease, stop worrying about mileage and enjoy your car.

EazyD 12-30-2010 02:31 PM

You won't last more than 2 weeks. Don't fight it.

VCuomo 12-30-2010 02:51 PM

I don't understand why you're considering it, but if you do end up parking the car for an extended period of time, you should periodically start it and keep it running long enough to charge the battery, and move the car a bit so that you do not develop flat spots on the tires. I would do this at least every 2-3 weeks.

jaedub 12-30-2010 03:26 PM

My goal is to only put 5k-7k miles per year. Im at 4.2k miles, been 8 months

mick 12-30-2010 03:35 PM

i cheated and got a 2nd car :D
