hey all, chubbs is right !... in fact, i can't even post why i know this b/c i'm wrapped up in an issue right now - there is a real risk that posts here can be misinterpreted and used against you if they link it back to your specific vehicle... post freely, just don't use your name, vin, plate # etc
the good news is that nissan is listening ! i totally applaud them for monitoring what their customers want/need ! |

Your car can tell on you!
This information is taken from the 370Z Owner's manual and can be found in section 9 page 20 Technical and consumer information. Someday a law enforcement person will point and electronic device at your car and your busted! It downloads instantly all the data from you cars EDR. Your VIN number, speed, time of day and so on. Take all this information with a "grain of salt" but be warned. This kind of recorder would almost be useless if it needed an event to set it off. After all a crash could instantly cut the power off. My guess is, it's always recording, maybe only 30 seconds over and over again but still recording. So maybe a warranty buster? maybe. You probably can tell I don't trust what they say about not recording under normal circumstances. I don't, normal might mean when the car is not running, OK just kidding but do read about it so you know.
EVENT DATA RECORDERS (EDR) This vehicle is equipped with an Event Data Recorder (EDR). The main purpose of an EDR is to record, in certain crash or near crash-like situations, such as an air bag deployment or hitting a road obstacle, data that will assist in understanding how a vehicle’s systems performed. The EDR is designed to record data related to vehicle dynamics and safety systems for a short period of time, typically 30 seconds or less. The EDR in this vehicle is designed to record such data as: . How various systems in your vehicle were operating; . Whether or not the driver and passenger safety belts were buckled/fastened; . How far (if at all) the driver was depressing the accelerator and/or brake pedal; and, . How fast the vehicle was traveling. . Sounds are not recorded. These data can help provide a better understanding of the circumstances in which crashes and injuries occur. NOTE: EDR data are recorded by your vehicle only if a nontrivial crash situation occurs; no data are recorded by the EDR under normal driving conditions and no personal data (e.g. name, gender, age and crash location) are recorded. However, other parties, such as law enforcement, could combine the EDR data with the type of personally identifying data routinely acquired during a crash investigation. To read data recorded by an EDR, special equipment is required and access to the vehicle or the EDR is needed. In addition to the vehicle manufacturer and NISSAN dealer, other parties, such as law enforcement, that have the special equipment, can read the information if they have access to the vehicle or the EDR. |
^ Insurance companies will love that!

LOL WOW does she not know how to drive? It is a automatic. WOW 7k. Don't let her drive it again or at least educate her before doing it again. Well i'm sure that's already been done. What mode did she have it on? That really sucks. Hope everything is ok.

well let us know when you get it closer to 50k to 100k. It's only at 3k.

WOW so if u were speeding i guess the insurance agencies can say well u were driving recklessly and we don't have to fix your car. That sucks. The gov't always wants to know everything that goes on. I wonder if there is a way to disable this.

the burning smell is usual from the new car. when i got mine i didnt rev it more then 4rpm until 1600 miles and i floored it today, i think that broke in the engine because when i park it now there is no burning smell. the burning smell went away after 1100-1200 miles.
i got mine stick because i didnt want my mom or gf to drive it. the funny thing is now they want me to teach them how to drive stick lol |
Time to buy her her own car

Right when I saw wife drove my z, I knew this wouldn't be pretty...
If you really love your baby you would never let anyone drive it! You should always ask if anyone has questions before they take your car out especially if it's new like this one!!!! I'm glad your wife was smart enough to actually stop and call you though, huge relief! Good luck! |
Good grief! Not that I would want to test that wide open throttle in first scenario but I would figure they (Nissan) would have added some programming forcing an upshift in a situation like that. The CVT I had in my Altima had logic that would keep a higher range if the transmission is overheated.

how many miles should I put on my car before I open it up?
I'm not liking the "drive it like you stole it" I feel that I should slowly do this for example after 1000 miles or so. any suggestions? thanks :) |
